Iwan Thomas has revealed the extent of his dramatic two-stone weight loss after taking part in Bear Gryll’s new endurance based reality show Celebrity Island.

The former Olympian, 43, shared a shot of his notably thinner frame with Good Morning Britain viewers after almost two weeks of basic living on an otherwise uninhabited Pacific island.

Posing in his shorts, the usually rugged Iwan displayed a gaunt face, slimmer waistline and thinner legs as he relaxed in the island hotel used by departing campmates.

Reflecting on his latest TV appearance, Iwan admitted he went more than week without eating a full meal - and staunchly defended his decision to kill a caiman while hunting for food.

'It was a do or die situation,' he explained. It sounds cruel, but I felt no remorse when I killed that caiman – I know that's horrible.

'There was no pleasure in killing it, but we were starving. I feel bad that we took an animal's life, but we had to eat.'

No regrets: 'I feel quite proud I've killed a caiman and perhaps I should be feeling bad but to be honest I don't. I just saw it as an animal,' said Iwan afterwards

Fellow Islander Shazia Mirza, a long-term vegetarian, admitted the lack of food was so extreme that she had no alternative but to eat the reptile.

'Listen, I'm vegetarian and I hadn't eaten meat for eight years,' she said. 'But at that point on the island, we hadn't eaten any food for nine days.

'We had no food at all. I know people watching at home probably think producers were secretly bringing us packets of crisps or pieces of cake – well, they weren’t.'

She added: 'You can survive for about 30 days without food, but we were starving. I know it's a reality show, but it was a survival situation.

'Whether you're vegan or vegetarian, if you're in a life or death situation, you will do anything to survive.'

Iwan and Coronation Street star Ryan Thomas came under fire from fans of the show after killing a baby Caiman while foraging for food.

The pair, who had not eaten properly since entering the island camp, were filmed wrestling the reptile out of a small watering hole before killing it with a hunting knife.

However others felt the killing was entirely justified, with one writing: 'all these moans about killing that caiman if u dont like it dont watch it Crocodile burger is really nice u shud all try it (sic).'
