SAM CUNNINGHAM AT VICARAGE ROAD:Sergio Aguero proved he is as undroppable as Manchester City are unstoppable right now. The striker scored three of City’s six goals as they crushed Watford under a purple rampage of pure football to move to the top of the Premier League table. Aguero underlined his class and his quality with the hat-trick and an assist for Gabriel Jesus, while Nicolas Otamendi and Raheem Sterling added the rest. To think he could have left City if they signed Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez.

GETAFE 1-2 BARCELONA - PETE JENSON: Barca had to come from behind to keep up their 100 per cent record so far this season but substitutes Denis Suarez and Paulinho got the goals as the ran out 2-1 winners. Things did not go according to the script early on when Gaku Shibasaki got a spectacular opener. The ball dropped to the Getafe number ten on the edge of the area; he drew back his left foot and cracked it like a whip to send and an unstoppable volley swerving into the roof of the net. It was worthy of Lionel Messi but it had been Getafe’s number 10 and not Barça’s who had opened the scoring.

CRYSTAL PALACE 0-1 SOUTHAMPTON- OLIVER HOLT AT SELHURST PARK: Before kick-off, it seemed there could be no better place for Roy Hodgson to begin his rehabilitation after the humiliation of that defeat by Iceland in Nice during Euro 2016. He is England’s best travelled manager but this is as close to home as it gets for Hodgson. Two hours later, a big, baggy coat covered his suit and his hair was flattened by rain as he walked back towards the tunnel. Cheers had turned to groans.

DOMINIC KING AT ANFIELD: It was another day for nostalgia at Anfield, a chance to press rewind and remember how it all began. This year marks Liverpool's 125th anniversary and the visit of Burnley fell closest to the date of their first ever game at this venue, when they beat Rotherham Town 7-1 in a friendly. The Liverpool Mercury reported that particular game was played in front of a 'modest attendance' but the team 'would get better with practice'. There was nothing so modest about the number of the crowd that had assembled for this Premier League game – once again there were more 53,000 in attendance. And to mark the occasion, some of the greats from the past paraded before kick-off to remind the new generation of what Liverpool used to be. 

JEFF POWELL IN LAS VEGAS: Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin both hit the scales exactly on the middleweight limit of 160 lbs for their huge fight. Canelo defied doubts about whether he might struggle to make the weight but he looked heftier than multiple world middleweight champion. He said to Govolkin: 'I'm going to knock you out.' Golovkin replied: 'see you tomorrow night.'

Arsene Wenger's side have come out on top in the last two outings between the clubs — the FA Cup final and the Community Shield last month — but knows this will be a different encounter altogether. Chelsea have hit a rich vein of form, returning to the Premier League this weekend following a 6-0 drubbing of Champions League newcomers Qarabag on Tuesday.

Marc Leishman has put in another fine performance during the second round of the BMW Championship at Conway Farms. The Australian, who finished day one as clubhouse leader, held on to top spot with a seven-under 64 at the penultimate play-off event for the season-ending tournament. After claiming 10 birdies during round one, the 33-year-old shot eight on Friday, again just dropping one shot on the 17th hole of the Chicago course.
