Two injured as gas pipeline explodes in Gurgaon


Two people were injured when a piped natural gas (PNG) line exploded in an apartment at Sector 31 in Gurgaon on Saturday.

The police said the incident took place inside the kitchen of an IT professional's flat in the apartment when repairing of gas pipeline was being done.

The injured persons were taken to a nearby private hospital, where doctors discharged them after preliminary treatment.

The pipeline caught fire when a mechanic was checking fault in the line. Technician Abhishek and domestic help Anjali, present at the time of the explosion, sustained injuries.

Sahil Chandra, the flat owner said it was a lucky escape for the family as the pipeline blasted on weekend and the school was closed.

"Normally, my wife keeps moving around the kitchen as she has to send the kid to school, but today she was not there," he added.

Chandra complained the matter to the police against the negligent attitude of the developer and the caretaker.

However, the FIR has not been registered so far. Residents expressed their concerns over the quality of basic infrastructure provided by the developer and their failure to manage the situation.
