They're currently embroiled in a bitter divorce battle, with Kris Humphries claiming Kim Kardashian only married him for publicity.

But the 32-year-old star hit back at her estranged spouse's protestations as she sat through a secret nine-hour divorce deposition at her lawyer's office on Tuesday.

Insisting she didn't tie the knot with the 28-year-old basketball player to boost ratings for her reality show, the raven-haired beauty maintained she 'really did love' the sportsman when he popped the question.

TMZ reports that Kim 'testified under oath' that her intentions were genuine when she accepted Kris' marriage proposal, despite the union only going on to last for 72 days.

Accompanied by her lawyer Laura Wasser, the Keeping Up With The Kardashians star affirmed that the success of her reality show 'played no part in her decision to tie the knot'.

Lee Hutton, the lawyer representing Kris throughout the divorce proceedings, was probing for evidence to prove that Kim married the sports star to boost ratings and consequently 'defrauded' him.

While Kris is hoping for an annulment - rather than a divorce - based on the count of fraud, sources have told TMZ the lengthy deposition 'didn't help his case'.

The Brooklyn Nets star didn't turn up for the hearing, and Hutton is said to have 'not asked much at all about the reality show and whether it was staged', despite previously threatening to 'blow the lid off' the alleged fraud.

Kim filed for divorce on October 31, 2011, citing irreconcilable differences after just 72 days of marriage.

The case will finally come to trial on May 6, 19 months after the star originally filed for divorce, with Kris alleging that the entire nuptials were a fraud and that Kim only married him for the sake of her reality show, Keeping Up With The Kardashians.

He has refused to grant her a divorce, instead demanding the marriage be annulled.

But Kim has refused to submit to his demands, instead insisting that she married for love, however misguided she may have been at the time.

The court case gives Kim a chance to obtain her divorce before the birth of her first child with rapper boyfriend Kanye West, which is due in July.

Court documents leaked last week revealed a producer on Keeping Up With The Kardashians acknowledged that some scenes - including Kris' proposal - had been re-shot for use on the show because Kim was unhappy with her reaction.

Russell Jay allegedly said: 'I remember, like, Kim – she didn’t know he was going to propose at that moment.

'And she came in and she was completely surprised, and I think she had a bad reaction or something and she was embarrassed.

‘So she said can we just, like, have me come back in one more time and be, like, really surprised. Because she had no idea it was going to happen. It was in her bedroom.'

Kris has been beset by problems throughout the legal proceedings, with his lawyer Marshall Waller quitting amid an 'irremediable breakdown of the attorney-client relationship'.

Meanwhile, Kim is said to be concerned about the effects the drawn-out divorce could have on her unborn child.

Kim's mother, Kris Jenner, recently said: 'Kim has been going through this divorce for months.

'She has been under a lot of stress because of it and the doctors told her she had a really tough week and the stress could become a problem if she isn't careful.'
