A massive backlash has started after Uber was today stripped of its licence to operate in London with hundreds of thousands of passengers signing a petition to keep the app running. The capital's transport authority today announced the firm was barred from working in the city over 'its approach to reporting criminal offences'. Transport for London said: 'TfL considers that Uber's approach and conduct demonstrate a lack of corporate responsibility in relation to a number of issues which have potential public safety and security implications.' Worried Uber drivers and angry passengers today joined a growing chorus of criticism - with delighted cabbies rejoicing at the potential downfall of their fiercest competitor. Father-of-three Bangalie, pictured right, who has been driving for the company for almost a year, said: 'My family are worried about the future of my job, even if I go on benefits I will not get the same amount of money.' Passenger Lucy Williams, 30, pictured centre, from London, said: 'It's terrible, I get Ubers like three times a week and they've saved me a lot of money from black cabs.' But black cab driver Kenneth Stein, 54, pictured left, said: 'I have nothing against Uber drivers but we as black cab drivers are regulated to the hilt while they have next to no regulation.'

The internet has reacted with a mixture of astonishment and hilarity to the shock news that Uber has been stripped of its licence to operate in London. This morning Transport for London (TfL) announced the firm -  which has between 30,000 and 40,000 drivers - would be barred from working in the city due to 'its approach to reporting criminal offences'. Critics have blasted the move, claiming they will be unable to afford late-night lifts home and said it will put thousands of drivers out of work. But those who back the decision say Uber failed to properly vet its employees and criticised their record on employment rights. The internet had a light-hearted reaction, with Leonardo DiCaprio, Monica and Rachel from Friends and even Gemma Collins featuring in memes.

Jay Stolzenberg (left), 25, mowed his bus into a car in Bridgend that grandmother-of-three Glenys Thomas (inset) was entering. Mrs Thomas suffered serious fractures and died three months after the incident (right). Stolzenberg pleaded guilty to causing death by careless driving and was sentenced to 27 weeks in jail, suspended for two years, and ordered to complete 150 hours of unpaid work by Newport Crown Court.

This is the charity shop worker arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of her seven-year-old son Archie Spriggs at their home in a Shropshire town. Lesley Speed, who was also injured at the property, remains in hospital receiving treatment for injuries to her neck and arm. Her injuries are not thought to be life-threatening. Officers were called to the house in Rushbury village, in Church Stretton, at around 6.15pm on Thursday.

Only a handful of people waited outside Apple's flagship London store for the iPhone 8 this morning - a far cry from the snaking queues of previous years. Queues were smaller than usual because of the anticipation surrounding the ultra premium iPhone X, which offers a radical redesign, new screen and advanced camera features. That is released in November. The special edition iPhone X features Apple's first ever edge-to-edge screen and facial recognition technology. This can be used to unlock the phone and make payments via Apple Pay, as well control new animated emoji - named Animoji - using their facial expressions. The iPhone X is due to be released on November 3, starting at £999, making it the most expensive iPhone ever.

A holiday maker who was fined after an airport valet parking firm left his BMW in a bus stop received an apology from the firm whose driver parked it illegally because he was hungry. Graeme Philpot left the car with Drivefly at Luton Airport on August 30 to return on September 9. But he was issued a £70 fine (pictured) for being 'stopped on a restricted bus stop' on September 7. Mr Philpot, who lives in Buckingham, said he got the parking ticket from Luton Borough Council after picking up his car when he returned from holiday.

Police ordered the four men to take the contraption down after locals on their road in Paisley, Renfrewshire, complained. A Sri Lankan couple are under investigation by child protection officials for using hundreds of school children to carry the train of the bride's two mile saree during a wedding ceremony. About 250 students carried the train of two-mile long saree she and the groom walked down a main road in the centre of the city of Kandy. Using students for such ceremonies during school hours was against the law, with violators facing up to 10 years in prison, the head of the National Child Protection Authority said.

A student at Anne Arundel Community College in Arnold, Maryland, outsmarted his professor by bringing a 3x5 foot-long cheat sheet when 'inches' weren't specified in the instructions (right). Assistant professor Reb Beatty (left) had allowed his students to bring a 3x5 notecard cheat sheet to the first test of the semester on Tuesday, but didn't clarify that he meant inches. He posted the hilarious result first to Instagram before sharing on Facebook where it's received more than 20,000 reactions and been shared more than 17,700 times. Social media users have praised the student's ingenuity in the comments (inset, top, center, bottom).

This young boy has more talent in one leg than most people have in both - and he has the footage to prove it. The talented youth was filmed by sports reporter Gabriel Carneiro at the President Peron stadium in Avellaneda, Argentina on Wednesday. As the video shows, he dominated his pick-up game, blasting the ball past two opponents to score - all the while unaware that the footage would soon go viral on Twitter. 

A video taken in Frederick, Maryland, shows the amazing moment a dog clears a 6ft 7" obstacle. A person was standing behind the barrier and the dog didn't hit anything or knock it down. Female greyhounds are typically under 3 feet tall but this dog obviously has strong legs.

Chessie King, 24, from London , posted side-by-side shots of her before, left, and after, right, having a salty bath - and claims she dropped inches in the process. Chessie explained that she had a 38 degree 20-minute bath using some magnesium salts from Body on Demand. According to the brand's website, the £7.99 product is made of magnesium chloride and natural sugars. Countless celebrities swear by magnesium baths because they apparently enable your body to function in an optimum state, reducing inflammation and improving hydration.

The identity of the buff Buddhist, who was photographed in the humble orange attire of Thailand's monastic order, is not known. But the holy hottie is thought to have shared the photos to raise awareness about the health of monks. He apparently wanted to advise the public to change their habit of giving monks fatty and sugary foods as alms.
