The desperate dogs - which were trapped inside bags (pictured right) - could be heard whining for help. In India, many dogs are place alive in boiling water at markets so their skin and fur comes off and their meat is then sold for £2 per kilogram. Now seven of the 26 dogs have been adopted locally and the rest have been put up for adoption by the charity Just Be Friendly.

Indonesian authorities have raised the alert level for the Mount Agung volcano on the island of Bali to the highest level.
