Three young men have walked free from court having been cleared of rape in the past few days alone. Given the evidence — or lack of it — many will question how these cases ever came to court. But far from being one-offs, they are part of a steady stream of cases which follow a strikingly similar pattern. These young men were all accused of rape and were later cleared. British climber saved his wife's life

Lucy Foster (top) told her family that her husband Andrew, an experienced climber, dived on top of her as the rock fell, saving her life. Mr Foster, 32, and Mrs Foster, 28, (pictured inset), from Cardiff, were crushed under tons of falling rock as they prepared for their climb at Yosemite's El Capitan in California. She suffered from two broken ribs and a punctured lung in the fall but is expected to make a full recovery, thanks to his heroics. Mr Foster died when a piece of granite measuring 131ft x 65ft tore away from the famous rock formation at 1.55pm on Wednesday. They had not yet begun climbing when he became completely buried by the shattered rock, which rained down on the base.

These are the first pictures of the 'murdered' policewoman whose body was found in a lake at a popular beauty spot. Mother-of-three Leanne McKie, 39, (pictured left with her officer husband and centre with her husband and children), was an officer for Greater Manchester Police. A 43-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder. Cheshire Police were called to Poynton Park (pictured right) at about 3.45am on Friday after reports a body had been found. A formal identification of the body has not yet taken place but it is believed to be Ms McKie. Detective Inspector Adam Waller said: 'At this stage this appears to be an isolated incident and we are doing everything we can to establish the exact circumstances of what has happened. A 43-year-old man has been arrested in relation to the incident; he is assisting officers with their inquiries.'

Grieving parents say they were failed by NHS 111 helpline

Steve Golding and Hannah Henderson (inset) say they were 'failed massively' by the East Kent 111 service after their son Teddy fell ill at their home in Dover Road, Folkestone and later died. After their first worried phone call to NHS 111 at 1am, the pair said they were given an appointment to see the out-of-hours GP at 9.30am. According to the heartbroken couple, when they attended the appointment, baby Teddy (top with Mr Golding) was diagnosed with the common infant condition, colic. But when the newborn's hands and feet began to turn purple, his worried parents and a concerned neighbour said they called the NHS 111 service. They claim they then waited over an hour for the ambulance to arrive while their son turned 'blue and purple'. Mr Golding and Miss Henderson then called 999. 

Mom left four kids at home while she went to Germany

Johnston, Iowa police say a local mother (bottom right) left her four kids, ages six to 12, home alone on September 20 while she took a trip to Germany. Police received a tip about the unsupervised children a day after Erin Lee Macke, 30, left the country. When they conducted a welfare check on the house, they found the kids alone and an unloaded handgun left on top of the dresser in the master bedroom. Police called Macke in Germany, and she admitted that she left her kids alone when all of her babysitters fell through. She said she didn't plan to return until October 1. Police ordered her to come home, but she only cut her trip short four days. A day before returning home, she brazenly posted several pictures of her trip to Instagram - including pictures of her sightseeing (right, in center image) and eating traditional Germans meals (center top inset). She was taken into custody after returning to the U.S. Wednesday night. Macke now faces four counts of child endangerment and one count of making a firearm available to a person under the age of 21. Her eldest children, 12-year-old twins (top left), are with unspecified family members while her younger daughters, six and seven (bottom left), are with their dad. Public records show she divorced a Matthew Macke in 2013. Posts on Instagram show that Macke competed in a bikini competition in May (top right, with one of her daughters).

Pandas make havoc at Chengdu Giant Panda Breeding base

A cuddly ensemble of giant panda cubs made their first appearance today at a breeding centre in Chengdu Giant Panda Breeding research base in south-west China. According to the People's Daily, the 11 naughty giant panda cubs born met the public and certainly created mayhem as they naughty little tikes were uncontrollable meeting the public for the first time. The cubs, all less than a year old, appeared to be more interested in playing than queueing up to be fed.
