He will reportedly be killed off later this year as his family are informed that he has perished in a dramatic car explosion while working in Ukraine.

And it would appear that Coronation Street actor Mikey North has already begun his last hurrah as Gary Windass, as the soap star was spotted filming scenes set to air near Christmas time.

Alongside with actress Nicola Thorp, who plays Gary's secret lover Nicola Rubenstein, he was dining at a cafe, which was already dressed up for the festive season.

It's believed that Mikey will not return to the cobbles after his trip to Ukraine later this year, yet it's not clear whether this will be Gary's last scenes on the street.

The pair, who are expecting their first child, were seen engaging in tense conversation before Nicola was seen leaving the cafe, and displaying a hint of her baby bump.

Despite Gary refusing to admit his affair, it seems the truth may come out before Gary meets his fate, leaving mother Anna (Debbie Rush) and girlfriend Sarah Platt (Tina O' Brien) devastated.

Other scenes on Wednesday, showed Nicola exiting her vehicle carrying a Freshco's bag, under the watchful eye of her villainous father Pat Phelan (Connor Mcintyre).

Phelan was spotted watching his daughter from inside a red van, hinting that perhaps she could his next victim.

The dangerous businessman has been holding Andy Carver hostage since January, and has also been spotted watching Daniel Barlow.

News of actor Mikey's potential soap exit was reported on Tuesday.

Gary has been a central character on the soap since 2008, butThe Sun claims he will be caught up in a car explosion, off-screen.

It follows the decision of Gary - who shares son Jake with former girlfriend Izzy Armstrong - to work abroad in a bid to raise money to pay for his son's medical bills.

Detailing the plans for his departure, a source told The Sun: 'Gary's family are devastated after they're told of his tragic death.

'Gary's mum Anna is told that he was killed driving a diplomat whose car was ambushed, blown up and there are "no survivors".

'Sarah is inconsolable when she's told of his passing and everyone is desperate for more information from the foreign office to find out exactly what's happened.'

The shocking storyline twist comes not after Nicola discovered she was expecting his child.

Pat Phelan's daughter will face the daunting reality she will have to raise their baby on her own.
