The scene centres around Nicole, who mentors the Over-25s, sending home one contestant in favour of another.

Predicting the mayhem when all six chairs are filled, she covers her face as she winces to Sharon Osbourne: 'Now I've got to let everybody go!'

And after watching the last singer perform, she initially seems unimpressed - telling them: 'I was hoping to connect with that performance more and I didn't.'

But she goes on to add: 'But what wins for me is that I love a fighter and you're a fighter. And I want you on my team!'

As the singer walks dejectedly off the stage, even host Dermot O'Leary seems appalled, crying 'No, no, no!'

Wrapping the singer in his arms, he mutters 'This is insane'.

As the boos in the arena get even louder, it becomes too much for Nicole, who shoots up out of her chair and stalks out of stage door.

Taking out her frustration on the door, she pushes it furiously as she storms away from the cameras.

The showdown comes as it was alleged Nicole may be replaced by Cheryl as a judge on the X Factor, amid claims she's set to reunite with The Pussycat Dolls.

Cheryl will appear as Simon's guest judge during the Judges' Houses round - and Dan Wootton speculated that the stint was a 'test run' before she returns for good.

Speaking on Lorraine on Friday, he said: 'I have a sneaky suspicion that Cheryl may well be back in a full-time role as judge on The X Factor next year.'

Dan added: 'I think Simon is desperate to get Cheryl back on that judging panel. I think this could have been a bit of a test run to see if they get on and if they would bond.'

MailOnline has contacted a representative for Nicole for comment.
