'How about I just play well-written parts?' Jessica Chastain points out how no one ever says men play 'strong characters'

Jessica Chastain used her very active Twitter account on Tuesday to blast sexist writers who always refer to the characters she plays as 'strong women.'

'Everytime someone writes that I play "strong women" what they're implying is that most women aren't. How about I just play well written parts?' the 40-year-old Women's Marcher - who boasts 2.7M social media followers - tweeted.

'You never read that an actor is known for playing "strong male" characters because it's assumed all men are.'

'It is so closely woven into the fabric of the business that we have become snowblind to the glaring injustices happening every day.'

Chastain continued: 'I'm so inspired by the women who are far braver than I am, who have come forward with their stories [about Harvey Weinstein] and risked everything to help others. What is important is that the voices of these women do not disappear. We must amplify them.'
