Lovely in lilac: Selma Blair beats the LA heatwave as she slips into a pretty plunging dress to take her new rescue pup out for a walk

The temperature spiked at over 100F in parts of Los Angeles on Tuesday.

But Selma Blair looked as cool as a cucumber in a long, light and breezy lilac dress with a neckline that plunged almost to her navel as she headed out to walk her new rescue dog Cappy.

Beating the heat as she went about her day, the actress, 45, slurped on a refreshing iced drink to stay hydrated in the sweltering temperatures.

The American Crime Story star's brunette tresses cascaded over her shoulders and she didn't appear to be wearing any make-up.

The mother-of-one completed her boho-inspired daytime look with a pair of pink leather pumps.

Selma appeared to be going to a pal's house with her new rescue pup, Cappy, after returning to Los Angeles from a weekend break in Ojai, California, with her son Arthur, seven.

The cute canine came into the Hellboy star's life after her beloved Ducky, a Chihuahua-pug mix, died from injuries she sustained in a bad accident in late August.

Selma introduced Cappy, whose full name is Cappuccino Houston, in September on Instagram in a sweet snap with her son Arthur cuddling up to the canine companion.

She added a long caption that started: 'And so we have begun another dog love adventure.'

It ended:  'Deeply bonded with Arthur, she is a kind and dear girl. She is almost still a pup herself.

'She has already weaned her own babies. Now she has another needy young one. Arthur. And it is just what we all wanted.'

The Cruel Intentions star shares her son with her former flame of two years, fashion designer Jason Bleick.

Selma has since moved on with her current boyfriend, producer-actor Ron Carlson.

The showbiz couple have been romantically linked since February 2015 but his identity remained a mystery until recently.

They are a perfect match as Ron's daughter Chloe, from a former relationship, is the same age as Arthur.

Selma is presently working on Heathers, a TV series based on the 1988 black comedy about an outcast student who plots to kill the cool kids.

The 10-episode anthology is set to debut on the Paramount Network in early 2018.
