'Emotionally and mentally, that was really hard. I was pushing it too hard, my body wasn’t quite ready and I hurt a lot. Everything hurt…but this fall, I feel like me again,' she added.

'I got all the weight off, and was ready in a two-piece costume four months after having a baby, but it didn’t feel the same. Now, I feel like me, just older.'

Melanie returned to dancing for the 2017 spring season, about four months after she and the 74-year-old Rolling Stones frontman welcomed their son, whom she affection calls 'Dev.'

'The first six weeks of the season were so brutal,' she recalled, noting that it was both physically and emotionally difficult for her to find a balance between dancing and motherhood.

'I went from seeing [Dev] whenever I wanted to, to wondering if I would get to kiss him goodnight at all that week,' she said of returning to rehearsals, which typically run from noon to seven at night.

Just three weeks after giving birth, Melanie took to Instagram to share a photo of herself working out.

She continued to update her 17,700 followers on her progress as she worked to make her way back on stage.

The new mom said ABT was as 'accommodating as they could be,' and she tried to find different ways to spend more time with her son, including doing warmups on her own so she could be with him for an extra hour in the morning.

Melanie said she goes to the gym every day and runs three to four miles  — 'no slower than a ten-minute mile' — and then she will do ab exercises and weights.

As for her diet, the ballerina didn't mince words about what it takes to lose weight.

'Well, if you want to lose weight, you eat less. It’s just a fact. Yeah, you are hungry sometimes, but just don’t eat the whole portion,' she explained.

The mother-of-one said that she didn't gain that much weight when she was pregnant because she reminded herself that 'every pound that comes on had to come off.'

She also admitted that she probably wasn't eating enough when she was trying to get back in shape postpartum.

However, she noted that during the ballet season she can have almost anything she wants because of how much she is working out.

Melanie, who has the month of November off, is looking forward to spending time with her baby boy, and she is looking to take him on a vacation with Mick.

The couple began dating after the 2014 death of fashion designer L'Wren Scott, Mick's partner of 13 years, and their son Deveraux is the youngest of his eight children.

Mick has a daughter, Karis Hunt Jagger, 46, from his relationship with Marsha Hunt and a daughter Jade Jagger, now 45, with his ex-wife Bianca.

He had four children with his ex-partner Jerry Hall — Elizabeth, 32, James, 31, Georgia, 24, and Gabriel, 18.

He also had a son, Lucas, 17, following a brief relationship with Brazilian model Luciana Gimenez.
