The former Radio 1 jingles producer for DJ Chris Moyles has been found guilty of sexually abusing an 11-year-old girl in Cyprus.

Sandy Beech was behind hundreds of songs for Moyles' show and had been presenting a show on the island.

But the 46-year-old radio executive was arrested on suspicion of child sex charges at Paphos Airport in March last year.

Today, he was found guilty of 12 counts of sexually abusing his 11-year-old victim between May and August 2015.

The offences were carried out over four occasions but only came to light in January 2016 when the victim's mother found out.

Beech returned to the UK but was arrested as soon as he flew back to Cyprus in March last year.

After his arrest he was bailed but forced to handover his passport while awaiting trial.

Local reports said today's verdict was announced behind closed doors and a mitigation hearing is due to take place on November 9.

Paedophile Beech was taken straight to prison in Nicosia from the Paphos court.

The disgraced producer worked with superstars including One Direction and Robbie Williams while working for Moyles on his breakfast show, which was on the air until 2012.

He was also the director of the production company Music4 and worked on Moyles' The Difficult Second Album, which featured Gary Barlow and Olly Murs.

Beech launched Sunshine Radio in Cyprus in 2014.

He was also reportedly a major shareholder in a medical centre for British residents there.
