WARNING: GRAPHIC CONTENT Arthur Collins, the father of The Only Way is Essex star's newborn child, faces a 'substantial' jail sentence for hurling the corrosive substance over a crowd at Mangle E8 in Dalston, east London, in one of Britain's worst acid attacks. Phoebe Georgiou, 23, and Lauren Trent, 22, were celebrating their birthdays on April 17 when they were caught by the acid flung by Collins, who was out celebrating Ms McCann's pregnancy. Once active and outgoing, Miss Georgiou now confines herself to her family home in north London and suffers night terrors and anxiety in crowded places. 'It's not just physically scarring, it's mentally which is the hardest,' she said. 'Now I have a life sentence to deal with, with scars and mental injuries.'

A neighbour who left the note on an ambulance treating a critical patient who later died has described his actions as 'monstrous'. Hassan Shabbir, 27, (right) said his behaviour was 'appalling' and that he was 'disgusted with himself' after he had a rush of blood to the head and penned the note onto the ambulance's windscreen in Birmingham (left). It read: 'You may be saving lives, but don't park your van in a stupid place and block my drive'. The note went viral after a photograph of it was posted on Twitter by paramedic Tasha Starkey (inset) who attended the scene. But hours later the 42-year-old resident passed away after being rushed to hospital with 'massive internal bleeding'. Speaking after returning from his job as a teaching assistant at St Saviour's Primary School in Birmingham, he offered his apology to the deceased man's actions. The father, from Small Heath, Birmingham, said: 'What I did was monstrous, but I am not a monster. There is no justification for what I did. I am deeply ashamed at my actions, even before I found out the poor man had died.'

Additionally, she was given the middle name Endellion, which is that of a nearby village.

Ashley Deadman, 28, (left) is accused of being stoned on cannabis while he was driving when he hit Carli Scott, 30, (right) and her 35-year-old boyfriend Dean Evans (inset) in Basildon, Essex. The court heard the couple, who both lived in the town, were walking across the 30mph road near a BP garage when the green crossing light was illuminated. After jumping the light, witness Sara Cressy told Basildon Crown Court she saw what 'looked like a pile of clothes fly into the air then hit the floor'. Deadman tearfully told an officer at the scene: 'I remember hitting one, I didn't realise there was two.'

The unnamed man was discovered half naked in the middle of a field near Canterbury, Kent (right), lying on his back next to a decanter, Oyster card and a black suitcase. Police also found a book on clinical theology and a wedding catalogue addressed to a woman called Mandy Martin - but nothing led them to identify the man. It is unlikely he will ever be identified, despite a Europe-wide police search of DNA databases. They were unable to do dental checks as the man had no teeth. A forensic reconstruction of his face (left) was circulated but nobody could identify the man, who was of skinny build and was 5ft 5in to 5ft 6ins tall. Police believed he was in his 50s or 60s and may have been of Eastern European origin.

These mind-boggling photographs were taken by people around the world and shared online. Some use perspective to create seemingly impossible scenes, including a photo that appears to show a miniature man sitting on a woman's back (bottom centre) and another that captures a pair of friends who appear to be literally joined at the hip (top right). At first glance, it appears a baffling anachronism - a woman in 19th century dress walking head down through the countryside, with her eyes glued to a smartphone. The bizarre scene was spotted in an 1850s Waldmüller painting at the Neue Pinakothek museum in Munich by retired Glasgow government officer Peter Russell. While the true explanation behind the painting may be far more time-appropriate, the century-old piece bears remarkable similarity to a scene that's become all too familiar today, as 'distracted walkers' dominate the sidewalks with phone in hand.

Scientists are still recovering the 125 bodies of those murdered by a brutal gang of rebels hell bent on becoming pirates after their ship crashed into an uninhabited island 400 years ago.  Beacon Island, later named Batavia's Graveyard and nicknamed Murder Island for the atrocity that would occur, was the site of Australia's first and biggest massacre.  Centuries after the shipwreck of the Dutch sailing ship on a tiny Western Australian island, the story of what happened to those who swam ashore remains largely untold.

Miranda Baker, an 18-year-old student at Iowa State University, took to Twitter on Sunday to share two photos: one of herself posed with her date and another that sees him cropped out of the snapshot. 'After getting called disgusting last night, I successfully dropped 200lbs!! (Before and after pics),' she captioned the images. Miranda's post quickly went viral, earning nearly 300,00 likes and more than 33,000 retweets.

The quake hit 19 miles southwest of Halabja in Iraqi Kurdistan at around 9.20pm on Sunday, when many people would have been at home. More than 100 aftershocks followed. Tremors were felt as far west as the Mediterranean coast. The earthquake hit several western provinces of Iran but the hardest hit province was Kermanshah, which has announced three days of mourning. Prince Harry, 33, is attending the Mind Media Awards in London tonight, and looked delighted to be reunited with presenter Fearne Cotton on the red carpet at the Odeon in Leicester Square. The presenter, 36, greeted the royal on arrival and Harry looked equally pleased to see Fearne who he has met numerous times over the years.

A panda cub tries to stuff itself into a plastic bucket with help from its sibling in an adorable video from a breeding facility in China. The giant panda cub is only a few months old, but according to staff at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, it is already learning to explore its surroundings. Video shot by the staff shows the baby trying to climb into a big blue bucket, which it manages to do successfully, even for just a few seconds. Its sibling, a much larger panda by comparison, is seen trying to stuff the baby inside the bucket and roll it down the grassy hill that they're playing on, pictured.

Iris Day (pictured), who was born with a heart defect and Down's syndrome, died on December 2 last year, a week before she was due to have surgery on December 9 at Evelina London Children's Hospital. An inquest in Chelmsford heard that a scheduled operation on November 25 was cancelled due to a lack of beds, and another on November 30 was also put on hold after another ill child took priority. There had been earlier delays available at the start of November but Iris, whose family live in Great Braxted, Essex, had a viral infection and the risks of surgery were deemed too high. Her parents Ben, 41, and wife Hannah, 29, (pictured right) had taken her home before the operation but she was rushed to hospital with breathing problems and died later that day.

A woman was washing the dishes when she was shocked to see a huge huntsman spider (pictured) cleaning its massive fangs on her windowsill. Kate Black spotted the incredible sight at her home in Nowra, New South Wales late on Friday night. Ms Black told Daily Mail Australia she was doing the dishes and about to head off to bed when she saw the incredible creature. 'She was directly in front of me, on the windowsill above the sink.' Ms Black was unfazed by the spider despite its phenomenal size and menacing look. She finished the washing up, grabbed her phone and snapped a video of the spider. 'Luckily she stayed there long enough,' Ms Black said. After being posted to social media, the footage of the spider has sparked some hilarious discussion on social media (pictured inset).

A couple trying to take a selfie while enjoying a meal at a Las Vegas Benihana had an unexpected rat run along the window sill in the background of the video you captured. The lovebirds - vine star WillGotTheJuicecall and Olivia Rosalina - call each other 'sexy' before the large rodent scurries across the screen and goes out of sight. But the two don't even notice and share a quick peck before the girlfriend shares some of her food with her beau. It is unknown where the video is filmed but it appears to be in America.
