She's famously been at loggerheads with Taylor Swift for several years - with the pair even trading barbs in the form of their respective chart-topping hits.

And Katy Perry, 33, may well have had her arch-nemesis on her mind when her Witness tour continued on Tuesday, as she performed hours after it was revealed that Taylor's new album Reputation sold more than 1million copies in just four days.

Bon Appétit singer Katy - whose own latest album Witness wheezed its way to 180,000 in sales in its opening week back in June - defiantly entertained fans as she stepped onstage San Jose, California's SAP Center in an eye-catching red ensemble.

Looking every inch the pop diva, the star lit up the stage as she stepped out in a glittering asymmetrical red sheer dress, which featured a matching hood.

The attention-commanding number, which was worn over a matching bodysuit and was cinched at the waist with a broad belt, was teamed with a pair of fire engine red patent knee-high boots.

She added an extra touch of chic to her shoulder-padded look with a pair of cat eye shades as she belted her way through a selection of her biggest hits.

Her performance came as it was revealed that Taylor's new album sales had outstripped her own recent efforts, which featured the single Swish Swish - largely accepted to be a track aimed at Taylor.

The accompanying video shows Katy on the Tigers basketball team while a man with a blonde wig is on a team called the Sheeps.

Katy famously called Taylor a Regina George in sheep's clothing. Regina is the backstabber played by Rachel McAdams from the Lindsay Lohan movie Mean Girls.

She sings: 'Don't lose no sleep Don't need opinions From a shellfish or a sheep Don't you come for me No, not today You're calculated I got your number 'Cause you're a joker And I'm a courtside killer queen And you will kiss the ring You best believe.'

Meanwhile, it was widely assumed that Taylor's 2014 single Bad Blood was about Katy.

Taylor, 27, announced the details of her upcoming Reputation tour of North America on Monday.

The over two-dozen city tour is the Ready For It? singer's first time on the road since her 2015 concerts for 1989 and will kick off in Phoenix, Arizona on May 8, 2018.

Tickets are set to go on sale on December 13, but fans will have to register for an opportunity to purchase their seats via Ticketmaster #VerifiedFan.

#VerifiedFan has been criticised by some who claim the system forces fans to spend heaps more than face value to secure tickets for their favorite artist.The Pennsylvania born songstress will announce the details of the European, Australian, and New Zealand legs of her tour at a later time.

Katy's Witness world tour, which kicked off in September, is set to run until August, 2018, when her roadshow takes her to Australia.
