Silver screen dream team! Reese Witherspoon joins forces with Oprah Winfrey in A Wrinkle In Time trailer

It is the sort of team up sure to get fans of fine cinema lathered into a frenzy.

For Legally Blonde star Reese Witherspoon joins forces with chat show doyen Oprah Winfrey in the trailer for forthcoming feature A Wrinkle In Time.

And just when it seemed this heavyweight acting combination could not get more exciting, they have donned heavy makeup to play a pair of powerful celestial beings who work to the help the film's young protagonists find their missing father.

In the forthcoming Disney feature Reese plays the comically named Mrs Whatsit, while Lee Daniels' The Butler favourite Oprah stars as Mrs Which. 

Their team is completed by self-styled comic Mindy Kaling, whose character is Mrs Who. 

The film follows 12 Years A Slave star Storm Reid's Meg Murry , who learns her astrophysicist father, played by the famously wooden Chris Pine, is being held captive on a distant planet gripped by evil.

She enlists the help of her genius younger brother Charles, played by Deric McCabe, and and her amiable oaf classmate Calvin.

They decide to put her father's work, which examines how space can be navigated through the use of a fifth dimension that allows almost instantaneous travel.  

Adding an extra dose of hilarity to proceedings, roly-poly funnyman Zach Galifianakis plays a mystic character called the Happy Medium.

While the film, which opens March 9, features a strong female protagonist and numerous other characters, it is something of an all round girl power extravanganza.

For Selma filmmaker Ava DuVernay is the first black woman to direct a movie with a budget surpassing $100 million.

As if that was not enough the screenplay was written by Jennifer Lee, who also penned and co-directed Frozen.

But the true icing on the cake is the fact it based on the popular novel by Madeleine L'Engle, which was printed in 1962.

The New York-born writer was famed for fusing  her interest in both her Christian faith and science in her writing.
