It might be almost Thanksgiving, but the temperatures in southern California are anything but wintry.

And Laura Dern seemed to be enjoying soaking up the sunshine as she headed to the beach in Malibu on Wednesday ahead of the festivities.

The actress, 50, showed off her slim physique as she slipped into a black bikini top and sporty hotpants for a relaxing day of fun in the sun.

Grinning away as she chatted on her phone, the Big Little Lies star masked her eyes from the brightness of the sun with a pair of square shades.

The LA-born actress relaxed on a colorful towel, letting her brunette locks flow in with the coastal breeze.

After getting her fill of the shoreline, Laura toweled off and threw on a breezy black dress as she headed to her car.

She threw a grey sweater with lace detail around her shoulders and slipped on a pair of white rubber flip-flops.

Laura is about to become part of one of film's favorite franchises, next appearing in Star Wars: The Last Jedi which is due out December 15.

The star, who plays Vice Admiral Holdo in the saga recently told Entertainment Weekly fans can expect her character to 'shake things up.'

While co-star Oscar Isaac wasn't revealing if Laura's character was a hero or villain, he did say there was 'a lot of friction' between the duo, who currently grace the cover of EW together.

'It’s definitely appropriate that they’ve paired us [on the cover],' the actor said.

'[There's] a lot of the friction and conflict comes between Poe and that relationship with Admiral Holdo, who is this person that’s been - at least temporarily - put in charge of the Resistance.'

Star Wars: The Last Jedi is the followup to 2015's hit The Force Awakens, which was the seventh installment of the beloved sci-fi saga.

In addition to Dern and Isaac, The Last Jedi features the talents of Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, Lupita Nyong'o, and Benicio Del Toro, while also marking the last onscreen appearance of actress Carrie Fisher, who passed December 27 2016.

The film opens just in time for the holiday season, premiering December 15 2017.

Laura most recently starred in multi Emmy-winning HBO mini-series Big Little Lies, alongside the likes of Nicole Kidman, Reese Witherspoon, Shailene Woodley, Zoe Kravitz and Alexander Skarsgard.
