American consumers have funded the lavish lifestyles of the rich and famous founders of our favorite foods and drinks. By just heading to the grocery store for things as mundane as cereal, soup, salt and beer, customers have put millions of dollars in the hands of food companies. That money then went to fund their lavish mansions built across the United States. The families that founded Kellogs cereal, Campbell's soup and Morton's salt built or renovated incredible estates with luxurious mansions, impressive swimming pools and exquisite gardens. Photos show the exquisite architecture and pristine landscaping of some of the countries richest families.

Aviation pioneer Amelia Earhart (pictured right) and her navigator were executed by the Japanese government to avoid an international incident, and the US played along, a shocking theory claims. The theory says Earhart, who was the first female aviator to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean, and navigator Fred Noonan were killed on the island of Saipan, now a US commonwealth, after their disappearance in 1937 has been around for more than 50 years now. But now claims have emerged that Earhart's body was retrieved by the US military - which may have hidden her killing to keep the peace, the Pacific Daily News reported. The theory fits the recollections of William 'Bill' Sablan, a resident of Guam whose uncle, Tun Akin Tuho, worked at the Saipan prison camp (inset). In July, a fuzzy photograph (left) emerged as part of the promotion for the History Channel documentary purporting to show Earhart and Noonan in Saipan, along with her plane, in 1937. A facial recognition expert said that it is likely Earhart and Noonan in the photo. However, investigators said the image could not be that of Earhart because it was found among a batch of pictures taken after 1940 - three years after Earhart vanished.

Lawrence LaFave died in his hotel room at a hotel in Tarentum, Pennsylvania, in June 2016 by accidentally hanging on a scarf he had placed around his neck to perform the sexual act. He was found in a kneeling position wearing a women's slip, panties, a bra and pantyhose.

A billionaire Russian tech investor tried to dock his massive $195million dollar luxury yacht (left)- but was blocked by handful of residents on the small island of Molokai in Hawaii. The group of residents along with activists told them there were no alohas for the enormous vessel, it's billionaire owner Yuri Milner (inset) and its crew from what is known as the Friendly Isle.  Residents said they saw the yacht as a potential threat to the island they call home. The residents have previously protested other large vessels from docking in the past (top right).

Rance Howard has died at the age of 89. His son, filmmaker Ron Howard announced his dad's passing on Saturday via Twitter. Rance was a TV and film actor with a career spanning decades, since his debut in 1956.

A pair of 'drugged-out' cashier clerks appear to be falling asleep at the register as they check out a man in a YouTube video entitled 'America's Opioid Epidemic'. Midway through checking out the items, the cashiers appears to be in a sleep-like state - one with her head down and the other with her head back and her mouth hanging open (left) until someone calls out to them. One of the cashiers, wearing glasses, appears to have trouble scanning the items (right). The second cashier’s head again falls forward after bagging just one soda bottle. It is unclear from the video what drug the workers were on or how long ago they had been taken the drug. Every day, more than 90 Americans die after overdosing on opioids and it is the leading cause of accidental death in the US.

Ginger Zee, a native of Orange, California, abused pills in an attempt at suicide and checked herself into a mental hospital 10 days before she landed her dream job at ABC News, she writes in her new memoir which comes out on December 5. The revelations were made in her new book, Natural Disaster: I Cover Them. I Am One (right). Zee, who was born Ginger Zuidgeest, is the chief meteorologist for ABC News. She is the first ever female chief meteorologist for a major US television network. In 2013, she was named chief meteorologist for Good Morning America (she is seen left on GMA).

It was revealed when a long-time viewer noticed none of the biggest news stories of the day - namely the atrocious ISIS attack at an Egypt mosque which killed 305 innocent people - had been mentioned.

Stassi Schroeder is facing a backlash after allegedly criticizing the #MeToo campaign on her podcast. Several sponsors have backed out of supporting the reality personality's show, Straight Up With Stassi, after being made aware of the Vanderpump Rules star's comments. Some have said her comments are 'against everything we stand for' and were quick to pull their advertising spend. The episode in question was titled Are We On A Male Witch Hunt? and has since been deleted.

Uma Thurman emerged in New York on Saturday, the first sighting of the actress since she publicly attacked shamed Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein. The brave 47-year-old was seen as she left her home following the holidays to enjoy a leisurely morning meal. On Thanksgiving day the A lister named Weinstein in a blistering post on social media, telling him: 'I’m glad it’s going slowly - you don’t deserve a bullet.'

Anne Hathaway and husband Adam Shulman just plunked down $2.8million on a sprawling Connecticut home.  The gorgeous mansion is on an one acre of property and looks like the perfect abode for the The Princess Diaries star complete with five bedrooms, and six bathrooms. The couple has already moved in, and spent their Thanksgiving weekend in their seaside hideaway.

A man in Canada has been found guilty of murdering three women, two of whom were his ex-girlfriends, in a shooting rampage in Ontario in September of 2015.  Basil Borutski, 60, was found guilty of two counts of first-degree murder for shooting to death Anastasia Kuzyk (top) 36, and Nathalie Warmerdam (center) 48, and one count of second-degree murder for strangling Carol Culleton (bottom) 66 on September 22, 2015. The jury deliberated for 14 hours before returning their verdict. According to local press Bortuski (inset, right in surveillance) said he was 'not guilty' as the trial wrapped and deliberations began. During the trial haunting evidence photos showed terrifying letters Borutski wrote to his victims before the murders and a sawn off shot gun (pictured).

In the BBC One programme, which will be shown tomorrow evening, the female octopus is seen covering herself with shells before her hungry enemy starts swimming around nearby. Sir David Attenborough, narrator for the programme, describes the deception as 'truly extraordinary.'In one heart-stopping moment, the shark smacks its tail on the octopus, turns around and begins to circulate around her again. The camera then cuts to a close up of the octopus' eye, which darts around nervously as the predator swims close by.

Pregnant Heather Vaden, from Robertsville, Missouri, managed to save her two-year-old son (right) after plunging an SUV in a pond along on Wednesday morning (right). Heather had swerved off the road to avoid hitting a dog when she crashed into the pond but quickly unbuckled both her and her son Bently's seat belts. She only suffered a broken arm but her entire family got to still enjoy Thanksgiving dinner.

Among the other celebrity tributes are a questionable depiction of the late Amy Winehouse (pictured bottom left) and a bald Britney Spears (pictured top centre) after she shaved her head in 2007.

Bailey Sellers was gifted pre-paid flowers from her dad, Michael William Sellers, and received her last purple bouquet and a birthday note (inset) on Friday. 'My dad passed away when I was 16 from cancer and before he died he pre-paid flowers so I could receive them every year on my birthday,' Bailey Sellers said to the New York Post. Michael William Sellers (left with Bailey) was informed that he had stage four pancreatic cancer two weeks after Christmas in 2012 and died six months later.

Octomom Natalie Suleman shared adorable snaps of her eight children taking part in a Thanksgiving sports day. The 42-year-old mom-of-14 gathered her youngest for a group shot with her eight eight-year-olds (center). 'A new year, an old tradition...#TurkeyTrot5k #FitFamily #HappyThanksgiving,' she captioned it. All eight also competed in a five kilometer race, with one of the eight hitching a ride on his mom's back (left). She also captured a video of the orange T-shirt clad youngsters competing in a sack race, filling almost the entire starting line (top right). Natalie - born Nadya - initially received public backlash when she used a controversial IVF treatment to become pregnant again, despite being on welfare and already having six kids. She gave birth to her octuplets in 2009 (bottom right).

As the years go on, weddings become more lavish than ever before. One particular couple may have created new expectations with their five-metre wedding cake castle, which was themed around the Grand Budapest Hotel (pictured left, right and inset). The wedding cake itself took 30 days to create, six hours to build and a team of 15 people - who had to transport it 150 kilometres to where the wedding was hosted in Bandung.

In the video, which was filmed in Podgorica, the capital of Montenegro, a man in a yellow hoodie is seen following a woman down a residential street. Meanwhile, a black dog, believed to be a stray, watches intently. The man grabs the woman from behind, causing her to fall to the ground, before trying to grab her handbag. But the dog springs into action, biting the man's buttocks and legs. The would-be robber then abandons the theft and runs away as the dog chases after him.

The incredible moment a shark swimming alongside two unsuspecting surfers has been caught on camera. The spectacular moment a shark shared the waters with the surfers off the Central Coast of New South Wales, Australia, was captured on a drone camera earlier this week. 'These two surfers surely didn't mind (or know) as they shared the line up with a shark,' Central Coast Drones wrote in a post with the video. The huge shark was swimming around a school of fish at Copacabana Beach as the two surfers entered the water. The footage shows the two boardriders paddling past the school of fish, and as they do the shark changes course and heads straight toward them (left). Moments later, one of the surfters is seen riding a wave back past the shark, which is lurking just metres away (right).
