Calum Best has been caught on camera inhaling from a balloon during a night out in London.

In footage obtained by the Daily Star, the 36-year-old is seen holding a number of balloons to his mouth as he fools around with friends, after a wild night of partying at Studio 338 in North Greenwich.

It is not known what Calum was inhaling but nitrous oxide, otherwise known as 'hippy crack' or laughing gas, was added to the list of banned legal highs by the Home Office in 2016.

In the clip the former Celebrity Big Brother star, clad in a casual white T-shirt and jacket, appears to inhale from a balloon on the pavement.

Clearly enjoying his night on the town, Calum proceeds to shout: 'Too many men, too many men', leaving his friends in stitches.

Joined by a man with a silver canister in hand, the TV personality then embarks on a second balloon with his friends - and jokes the group are like a 'commercial' for the substance.

An onlooker revealed to the paper that Calum, who works with the National Association for Children of Alcoholics (NACOA) following the death of his father George, 'didn't care' who saw him.

A source said: 'Knowing who his dad is, it seems pretty sad that he's out there getting f****d himself.

'I walked past him and he was there for five minutes getting high on the pavement. They were giggling casually, just being silly. They didn't care. He was just doing his thing.'

MailOnline has contacted Calum's representatives for comment.

While it is not known what Calum was inhaling, balloons filled with nitrous oxide - known as hippy crack - were included in the banning of legals highs by the Home Office in 2016 over fears of their use on the party scene.

The colourless gas is typically released from pressurised cannisters into a balloon and when inhaled gives the user a euphoric high.

What is Hippy Crack?

Nitrous Oxide has been nicknamed 'laughing gas' due to the euphoric and relaxed feeling people who inhale it can sometimes feel

The gas is normally bought in pressured canisters, commonly transferred to a container, e.g. a balloon

Nitrous oxide is not illegal to possess but was added to the list of banned legals highs by the Home Office in 2016

It is illegal to sell or import the drug for human consumption and is generally called laughing gas.

However while it was banned under the Psychoactive Substances Act, it is not illegal to use.

Calum has been enjoying a string of nights out in recent weeks, following his stints on Celebrity Big Brother and Celebs Go Dating.

The reality star admitted earlier this year he had 'snorted and drank and s***ged' his way through the pain of dealing with having an alcoholic father.

Speaking on Channel 5's In Therapy, Calum recalled the horrifying moment he caught the footballer relapsing, following a successful liver transplant.

The incident happened in 2002 while the family were away on holiday, and it came after George assured he was finally cured of his addiction to drink.

He explained: 'I knew he had just swigged from this bottle. And it was like f**k! It ended right there. I wanted to give up then totally.

'From then on it was just back to drinking. And he drank and drank until it ended. I remember leaving that trip so confused and upset and distraught.'

Talking about how this set Calum himself on a downward spiral, the current CBB star said: 'I came back and snorted and drank and s***ged my way through everything.'

George's battle with alcoholism finally took his life in 2005, which sent Calum into a tailspin of self destruction and grief.

'I didn’t know my a*s from my elbow and I was going here, there and everywhere with no shame or morals. I had years of grief. Constant f**king grief.

'There was a time right after I lost my old man from 24 to 27 where I drank every day and I did drugs and slept around and I built a horrible reputation for myself.

'I would walk down the street staring at the floor because I didn’t want people to say "there’s that p***k Calum Best".'

Calum said that before his father died his relationship wasn't at all healthy, due to George's own hedonistic behaviour.

'I was a young kid desperate for emotion,' he said. 'I would reach out with all this emotion and he would not know how to give it back. I was so confused by that. There was no depth to it.'

'When my dad was alive there was always hope. I always had hope that me and him were going to form a relationship. But when he died I lost that hope.'
