And Kim Kardashian West rang in her happy news with a typically lavish baby shower, where she served up some unusual drink garnishes.

Kim, 37, left fans scratching their heads after tweeting a picture of edible roses frozen inside a stack of ice cubes.

The reality star's 57 million followers struggled to work out what was inside the cubes, mistaking them for raw meat, frozen beef and even, bizarrely, 'premature fetuses'.

Kim, who is already mother to North, four, and Saint, 23 months, recently revealed she and Kanye were expecting a little girl, via a mystery surrogate, towards the end of this year - meaning the couple are just weeks away from welcoming baby number three.

She has called her surrogate 'the perfect person' and recently revealed that the unnamed woman doesn't even know whose baby she is carrying.

The baby shower is believed to have taken place in mid November, however, as Kim revealed on chat show Ellen.

Explaining her decision to throw a shower, despite not carrying the baby herself, Kim said: 'I thought, 'I really do want to have a baby shower, because I want [daughter North] to feel that something's coming, and for her to really understand it.

'So people brought toys and gifts, and she was opening them all up the next day and she said, "Mum, you know since baby sister is not here, I think I need all of her toys in my room, and I'll play with them and make sure they are all okay for baby sister."'

The finer details of the bash have remained under wraps, however, with the exception of Kim's ice cubes which she shared on Twitter and Instagram.

The reality star is reported to make between $75,000 and $300,000 per Instagram post (£56,000 to £225,000) according to CBC's Marketplace.

One fan wrote: 'Why does it look like ice cubes made from premature fetuses?' while another pondered, 'So when it melts, you're gonna have dead flowers floating in your drink? Girl.'

One tweeted: 'I thought it was dead fish. Omg.'
