Looks like nobody told the Weeknd [aka Abel Makkonen Tesfaye] that drinking while flying is whisky business.

Spotted arriving at Sydney airport in his private jet on Thursday, the R&B superstar was clearly keen to refuel after the long flight, seen still clutching a whisky glass.

Faced with the task of either losing his drink or snubbing the screaming fans begging for a wave, he opted to dispose of the unknown beverage orally.

Dressed in his signature black hoodie and track-pants, The Weeknd used caution on the exit stairs.

He kept a very watchful eye on his half-full glass, managing to make it all the way down without spilling a drop.

Despite his bulky black clothing, the pop star had no desire to get to the air-conditioned terminal in a hurry.

Instead, he stopped in the middle of the tarmac, pulled his hood over his head, and downed his drink.

And with that taken care of, he was finally able to address his fans, who are eagerly awaiting his forthcoming national tour.

The Weeknd has a few days to get over his jet-lag and any other ailments sustained during the long-haul flight, with his performance scheduled for Saturday.

He's due to perform two nights at Sydney Olympic Park, before hitting Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth and South Australia over the ensuing fortnight.
