Emmerdale SPOILER: Drunken Pete Barton knocks himself unconscious in horror fall as disaster strikes again for grieving family

The Bartons have had their fair share of heartache in the Dales recently following the deaths of Finn and Emma. 

But the grieving family will face yet more tragedy as a drunken Pete Barton suffers a horrific fall, leaving him in a crumpled heap at the bottom of the stairs.

In scenes set to air on Emmerdale next week, Pete struggles to come to terms with his mother Emma's funeral arrangements.

The Co-Owner of Barton Brothers Taxis, who doesn't believe his killer mother deserves a funeral, suffers even more heartbreak after he goes on a romantic meal with Leyla in David's shop.

While on the date, the brunette beauty is unable to tell Pete she doesn't want to be with him, especially after seeing the effort he has gone to for her.

The couple had tried to give their relationship another go, after he cheated on Leyla with her best friend Priya.

However she doesn't seem to be able to move on from the betrayal, as Tracy lets slip Leyla's true feelings leaving Pete to feel devastated and alone.

David then tries to step in to smooth things over but a hot-headed Pete ends up punching him after he makes a passing comment about his family.

Things go from bad to worse as an upset Pete resorts to booze in an attempt to deal with his inner turmoil.

Intoxicated, he falls down the stairs, knocking himself unconscious.

A source told Inside Soap: 'While Ross Barton seems to be dealing with things quite pragmatically, Pete just can't get his emotions under control.

'He's a loose cannon right now – and he could go off at any moment! Pete's in a pretty sorry state when he slips and falls down the stairs.

'He's been drinking quite heavily - he just wants to block out all the terrible things that have happened in his life recently.

'But all he does is make things 10 times worse by putting his own life in danger.' 

There is a glimmer of hope as Ross returns home later to find his brother out cold with a nasty head wound.

Terrified he could loose him, he calls paramedics- but could he be too late to save him?
