The FBI's forensic teams are testing 'items of interest' in their desperate search for missing Mariah Woods.

The bureau would not reveal what the items were or where they had been retrieved but it is hopeful the tests may reveal clues as to what happened to the three-year-old.

They were sent straight to the FBI's base in Quantico, Virginia, for testing on Wednesday afternoon.

Earlier in the day, agents were seen searching the trailer where Mariah lived with her 29-year-old mother Kristy, her older brothers and stepfather Earl Kimrey and where she was last seen alive.

An FBI representative on Friday stressed that 'multiple' locations had been searched.

As forensic teams tested the objects on Friday, sheriffs in Jacksonville, North Carolina, launched their fifth day of searching for the toddler.

They were joined by 700 volunteers who gathered in a local church parking lot.

Earlier this week, Mariah's biological father, who has not seen her for more than a year, said he does not believe she was abducted.

'Someone just walked right up in there, grabbed the 3-year-old out of the bed and she didn't cry, she didn't scream?

'Nobody heard anything? Four people in the house, two adults and two kids, someone just comes up and snatches the baby and walks out?' Alex Woods said.

He said he was interviewed by police not long after learning that his daughter was missing.

He was notified along with the public when the amber alert was issued, he said.

Kristy, who this week disabled her Facebook account after posting the missing person's appeal for her daughter, maintains her claims that Mariah was taken by a stranger.

In a tearful television appearance on Tuesday, she said: 'Please, bring her back.

'I love her. I'll do anything that I can, whatever you want. Please just bring her back safe and sound – she's my baby, she's my everything.'

DailyMail.com tried to verify the girl's father's claims with the North Carolina Department of Social Services on Friday morning but officials refused, citing local laws which deems the case information private.

Local sheriffs pleaded for volunteers on social media on Thursday but had to begin turning people away the next day when 700 showed up. They were all banned from taking photographs during their search

After pleading with the public for volunteers who could search 'rough terrain', sheriffs were forced to start turning down people who had shown up to a church parking lot to help look for her.

Their overwhelming response coincides with the revelation from Mariah's biological father that he does not believe her mother's version of what happened to her.

Kristy called police to report her missing on Monday at 6am. She claimed she had not been seen since midnight, when she checked on her, and that her boyfriend Earl was the last person to see Mariah alive.

She claimed he saw her at 1am and told her to go back to bed.

At some point in the five hours between then, she believes someone abducted the child - who has a walking impediment - from her bedroom.

On Friday, authorities said an estimated 600 people showed up to join the search for her.

They have forbidden anyone from taking photographs during the search mission and warned that anyone who is caught trying to take any will be dismissed from the search.
