For the first time since she has been a judge on The X Factor, mentor Nicole Scherzinger did not perform with her contestant in the grand finale on Saturday.

And according to reports this was at the request of head judge and show boss Simon Cowell, who instead drafted in his Britain's Got Talent winner Tokio Myers to accompany Nicole's contestant Kevin Davy White.

According to The Mirror, this left a bitter taste in Nicole's mouth, and the pair had a blazing argument on Friday night - on the eve of Saturday's show.

We can't believe The X-Factor is nearly over...

The paper reports that Simon's decision to keep Nicole sat behind the judging desk left the 39-year-old furious with him. It's also said they have still not made amends.

Attending the Brilliant Is Beautiful women’s charity gala in London on Friday, Nicole was allegedly overheard telling someone: 'This is the first time I’ve ever had a contestant and I’ve not performed with them.

'I’m not going to lie, I’m gutted. But X Factor didn’t ask me to.'

A source then added: 'Nicole couldn’t believe it when she was told Kevin would perform with Tokio. There was no discussion about it so it came as a huge shock.

'She went to speak to Simon about it but he had already made his decision and there was no changing it. Nicole was fuming.'

Nicole is supposedly the only judge yet to sign on for next year's season - with many speculating she will be ousted for the return of former judge Cheryl.

Nicole sensationally replaced Cheryl as a judge on the ill-fated American version of the show in 2011, with many wondering if the reverse will happen in 2018 for the next season of The X Factor UK.

At the end of Saturday's show, Nicole's act Kevin was voted off the show, leaving Grace Davies and Rak-Su still in the running to take the crown on Sunday night's last episode.

It's not unheard of for X Factor judges to join their acts on stage during the final, with the likes of Tulisa joining Little Mix in 2011 and Rita Ora joining Louisa Johnson in 2015.

Ahead of the weekend, Nicole spoke of her disappointment at not being asked to sing with Kevin.

'I would have loved to have shared the stage with him,' she said.

'It would have been a really big dream. I’m sad it’s not happening. I respect her talent,' Kevin had added.

Nicole also remarked that she 'would love to come back next year' but added that 'ultimately I’m not the one writing the cheques'.

The X Factor finale airs on ITV on Sunday evening at 7:15PM.
