The X Factor final: Simon Cowell appears to FORGET the name of his new boyband's single... yet quickly covers up the cringeworthy gaffe

Simon Cowell chose to introduce his new American boy band Pretty Much to the UK on Saturday night's live X Factor final by inviting them to perform on stage.

But the music mogul could barely muster up enough enthusiasm for them himself as he appeared to forget the name of their new single while introducing them.

'Here they are, with their new single called...' he said, before panic swept over his expression and he seemingly blanked on the name of it.

'I'll let you find out when you hear it!' Simon Cowell FORGETS the name of his new band Petty Much's single... and tries to cover up the cringeworthy gaffe

Attempting to cover up his embarrassing gaffe, he simply ended the sentence [after a painfully long pause] by saying, 'I'll let you find out and hear it for yourself'.

This led to a flurry of outraged viewers taking to Twitter to exclaim how shocking they found it.

'Simon doesn’t know the name of his bands single,' one person raged, as another posted: 'Simon’s forgotten the name of their single! LMAO Simon did NOT know the name of the single,' a third echoed.

Another posted that he 'didn't have a clue what the single is'  as another furiously typed 'EVEN SIMON DIDN’T KNOW WHO THEY ARE LOL'.

'Oh f**k off Simon. You don’t even know what the song is,' remarked another.

The final kicked off on Saturday evening, with one of Dermot O'Leary's trademark dance routines and a stirring rendition of You've Got The Love from Pete Tong and the Heritage Orchestra and Becky Hill.

Finalists Grace Davies, Kevin Davy White and Rak-Su joined in before they each went on to perform a solo of their own to kick off the show.

But viewers were left confused as some of them remembered Becky from the 2012 season of The Voice and mistook her for an extra contestant.

Meanwhile, others weren't sure who she was at all.

Kevin performed Whole Lotta Love by Led Zeppelin, while Grace sang Live And Let Die by Gins N Roses.

I think you've made a difference this year, along with Rak-Su, coming on with your own material. People will come on in years to come and say "if they can do it, I can do it",' Simon Cowell told Grace, of her songwriting skills.

Rak-Su sang their own track Mamacita, which led to a riotous sweep of applause from the audience.

Kevin performed the first of the famous X Factor final duets, teaming up with Tokio Myers, the winner of this year's Britain's Got Talent.

He rehashed his version of George Michael's Fast Love, with Tokio accompanying him on the keyboard.

Grace was joined by Paloma Faith who sang Grace's own song, Roots, with her.

This ended with Grace bursting into floods of tears, unable to speak through her sobs, thanking Paloma for her support.

Paloma told of how Grace had been a 'micro-manager' in rehearsals, telling her where to stand. 'I would have been the same though!' Paloma quickly added.

Rak-Su performed another original track, and teamed up with two special guests - Wyclef Jean and Naughty Boy.

Failing to win enough of the public votes to continue through to Sunday's grande finale, Kevin was the one to sing his last song on Saturday night's show.

Stood on stage with Nicole, his mentor declared that she 'couldn't wait for his album' - predicting a bright future for the aspiring pop star.

Kevin, 29, had continually impressed throughout the competition, and went on to make the final three, kicking off the show with a performance of Whole Lotta Love by Led Zeppelin.

He performed the first of the famous X Factor final duets, teaming up with Tokio Myers, the winner of this year's Britain's Got Talent.

He rehashed his version of George Michael's Fast Love, with Tokio accompanying him on the drums.

The Parisian singer - who has now made the UK his home - took the defeat gracefully, insisting that he was happy to get that far and thanking the UK for their support.

Speaking to host Dermot after it was revealed Rak-Su and Grace would be going into Sunday night's final, Kevin said: ' It's [three] my new lucky number! Thank you to the UK for believing in me and putting me on that stage.

'Thank you to all of you. I love you so much. I can't wait to show you what I can do.'

Whilst Nicole added: 'For me, Dermot he has already won. He has already won the hearts of so many people out there. What a beautiful beautiful platform this is for him.'

Both Rak-Su and Grace, as well as their mentors Simon and Sharon Osbourne, were thrilled to have made it to the final two.

Asked how they felt about making it this far, Rak-Su's Mustafa said: 'I'm speechless. I'm so emotional. Thank you so much to everyone that's voted for us. We never thought we'd make it here, from our first audition up until now.'

Whilst Grace added: 'It's been the most amazing experience. Thank you to the judges, thank you to the contestants for making it so fun.'
