May risks DUP wrath while 'keeping Northern Ireland in EU'

Theresa May failed to secure a Brexit deal today despite launching a high-stakes gamble to unblock the talks with a dramatic concession on the Irish border. After frantic haggling with Dublin, the Prime Minister emerged from three hours of talks with Jean-Claude Juncker (main) in Brussels to say there would not be an immediate agreement. At a joint press conference with Mr Juncker, Mrs May admitted that 'differences' still remained but said she was 'confident' the issues would be settled. The failure to strike a deal came despite mounting optimism that the two sides were on the verge of reaching an arrangement that could allow the EU to launch trade negotiations at a summit next week. It is unclear what blocked further progress, but Mrs May is facing a furious backlash from DUP allies (top right) amid claims she has conceded that Northern Ireland will keep all EU trade rules after the UK leaves the bloc - raising fears it will stay in the single market in all but name. Inside the room where Poppi Worthington died

These are the first pictures ever published of the home where Poppi Worthington died including the double bed where she was found unresponsive and bleeding after her father 'probably' sexually abused her. The bed is shown strewn with towels, pillows and kitchen paper with a half-drunk baby bottle on the bedside table in Barrow-in-Furness in 2012. Cumbria's coroner has today also released images of the Peppa Pig pyjamas she was wearing on the night, the sofa where paramedics tried desperately to revive her, her pink babygrow and Hello Kitty cot blanket. It came as the doctor who examined her body after her death told Poppi's inquest in Kendal today she suffered severe bruising, cuts and a leg fractured in two places. Dr Alison Armour said she also found tears and bruising around her bottom and was 'strongly suspicious of child abuse' straight away. Last week Poppi's father Paul avoided 252 questions about her death - including why her DNA was found on his genitals - but chose to answer one to describe the 13-month-old as a 'bully'.

Is this Amazon's new delivery drone? Engineers are spotted at secret location testing 17-inch prototype that should allow packages to be dropped off safely in your garden

The prototype was seen being lowered up and down by a huge crane as tests are carried out to ensure the drone can avoid obstacles and land safely in gardens. Seattle-based Amazon is believed to be testing its sophisticated 'sense and avoid' technology at a secret location in the Cambridgeshire countryside. This would enable the drones to eventually fly for ten miles at 400ft (121m) and carry packages of up to 5lbs (2.2kg) to people's homes in under 30 minutes. The size of the drones is unknown, with various shapes and sizes being tested, but some have been estimated as measuring around 17 inches long and wide. The latest tests come about 18 months after the Civil Aviation Authority lifted strict drone flying restrictions, which enabled Amazon to start testing its drones. It means the internet giant is allowed to have one pilot controlling multiple autonomous drones and can operate a drone without a direct line of sight.

Can you step over an 'invisible box'? Internet goes wild for new viral trend where people appear to walk on air (but how DO they do it?)

Baffling videos have taken social media by storm, people seemingly walking in mid-air by stepping over an invisible box. The premise involves stepping onto an 'invisible box' with one foot and leaping over it with the other foot. Some have performed the trick to perfection such as  Anderson University football player Dontez Hines (left) and Manvel High School cheerleader Ariel (right). Others hilariously fail, tripping over their own feet or even falling to the ground. The basis of the trick is all about jumping with one foot while keeping your 'stepping' foot still. So the performer has to essentially hop forward on one foot while keeping the other fixed in mid-air.
