Nick Cave's wife has spoken publicly for the first time about her grief over the death of their 15-year-old son who fell off a cliff in England after taking LSD for the first time.

In an interview with Vogue magazine, fashion designer Susie Bick revealed how she struggled to cope after the accident, and said the trauma has left her feeling 'constantly on the edge' about her other son Earl, 17; Arthur's twin.

Nick and Susie's son Arthur died when he stumbled off a cliff at Ovingdean Gap near Brighton at 6pm on July 14 2015 after becoming 'completely disorientated' when he took LSD with a friend.

An inquest later heard he had fallen to his death from a cliff after experiencing severe hallucinations and becoming separated from his  friend.

Susie recounted to Vogue how a week after Arthur's death she was unable to get out of bed because of her grief.

'I said: "Nick, I can't do this." The Vampire's Wife [Susie's fashion label] is over. Everything is over,' she recalled.

She said she had 'kind of a breakthrough' three months later when model Daisy Lowe contacted her for a dress and she decided to throw herself into work.

From then on she spent six months working almost every day, but took time out in the morning to do something for herself, such as spend time with a friend's horse, Susie explained.

'Having to show up, having something to do which was physically demanding enabled me temporarily not to think of anything else. Which is probably not healthy, I know, and one day maybe I'll find a therapist to process it all, but to be honest, work is what has saved me,' Susie said.

While coping as best as she can, the fashion designer admits Arthur's death has left her constantly fearful something will happen to her other son Earl.

'It's irrational, I know, but that's how you live after a trauma, constantly on the edge,' Susie said.

His family live in a palatial seafront mansion in Brighton and also own a home in LA, and Nick had vowed to leave the UK after his son's death because 'the pain of the memories is too much'.

In May, Nick revealed he had turned a corner in his mourning for Arthur and was now able to return to writing music.

'A lot is said about grief, especially the conventional wisdom that you do it alone. I personally have found that not to be the case,' he told the Guardian.

'The goodwill we received after Arthur’s death from people who I did not know, especially through social media, people who liked my music and kind of reached out, was extraordinary.'

An inquest in 2015 heard that Arthur Cave also had cannabis in his system, and was 'completely disorientated' when he stumbled off a cliff.

The teenager was tripping out so badly he 'couldn't feel what was real and what wasn't real any more' and in a final message to a friend he said: 'Where am I? Where am I?', police revealed.

In the minutes before the teenager died he was spotted by motorists as he 'zig-zagged' along the grass on the edge of the cliff before climbing over a safety fence and toppling over, it was said.

The singer's family have previously spoken of their heartbreak after the death of their 'beautiful, happy loving boy'.
