Taylor Swift smoulders in semi-sheer embellished mini dress for British Vogue... in first cover shoot since releasing new album Reputation

She found huge success with the release of her sixth smash album Reputation - which sold a whopping 2 million copies worldwide in its first week.

So it is no wonder Taylor Swift was chosen to grace the cover of British Vogue's January 2018 issue, as one of the leading ladies in the music industry.

The singer, 27, smouldered in an array of show-stopping dresses - including an embellished semi-sheer mini and a striking red Saint Laurent gown by Anthony Vaccarello - as she posed for her first shoot since her album's release.

Sizzle in scarlet like cover girl Taylor

For Vogue's January issue, newly appointed Editor-in-Chief Edward Enninful has opted for superstar songstress Taylor Swift as his second cover girl. Pictured here on the shiny new cover, Taylor looks back at the camera sporting slick, wavy hair, dark lips and a showstopping frock by Saint Laurent. The dress itself hails from the brand's SS18 collection and therefore won't hit stores for quite some time.

Unless you've been hibernating under a rock this past fashion season, you'll know all too well that red is the ONLY hue to be seen in right now. And what better time to base your look on a sprig of holly or Santa suit than at Christmas?

If you invest in one thing this party season we vote it should be a pillar-box red mini dress. Ruffled, lace, off-the-shoulder, high neck, asymmetric - whatever look you're loving, provided it's rouge! After a festive bargain? Head to River Island and pick up their red side frill satin mini dress. This one's got head turner written all over it. Got a bit more to spend? Emilio de la Morena's Tamara dress has that perfect mix of sexy and demure. All together now, here's to festive fah-shun!

The crooner commanded attention on the cover in the bold red gown, which is embellished with silver studs and features a daring plunging back, to leave plenty of skin on show.

Maintaining the grungy feel from head to toe, the blonde slicked her famous curls away from her face and sported a dramatic smoky eye and dark rouge lip - to make a stronger style statement as she fiercely posed.

Slipping into a number of show-stopping looks for the shoot, Taylor later offset her sultry beauty look in a dazzling embellished mini dress, complete with semi-sheer bodice and sleeves to tease at her figure beneath.

The shoot is part of a 12-page spread for the January issue, and a bold second choice for new British Vogue editor Edward Enninful.

Discussing his choice, Enninful revealed he had chosen the grungy theme to reflect Taylor's transformation in the music industry - from country crooner, to one of the world's biggest pop stars.

He said: 'For me, the chance to help transform America's most fascinating sweetheart was a joy.

'As we took the pop icon on an epic fashion journey with photographers Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, what struck me most about Taylor was her brilliant sense of humour, but also how, for a woman in her twenties, she has an incredible sense of who she is.'

Adding: 'Obviously she is a world-class lyricist – and has written a stunning poem just for Vogue on the timely subject of reinvention and moving on – but she also takes her duties as a role model very seriously.

'Taylor is acutely aware of her following and how she communicates with young women, and will never portray a character that would send the wrong message. That said, even superstars aren't immune to the power of a great dress.'

Discussing her transformation for the shoot, Enninful said: 'Taylor says she has never seen herself transformed like this before, and I was very touched to see how emotional she was at the end of our shoot day in London.'

Following the announcement, Taylor wrote on Instagram:  'Thank you @edward_enninful and @mertalas for your passion, spirit, and contagious laughter on set'

'Mert (Alus) and Marcus (Piggott) took these photos for @britishvogue and my album photos for reputation, and it's been such a bonding experience working together so closely and talking so much about what we wanted to make.

'It's been a while since I've done a magazine cover. I'm really happy my first one back was with such wonderful people.'

Enninful, formerly the fashion director of i-D was appointed the new editor following the announcement that Alexandra Shulman was stepping down after 25 years at the helm.

In November, Enninful released the first issue of Vogue under his premiership featuring a stunning cover starring Adwoa Aboah.

Now led by its first gay, first black and first male editor, Enninful's appointment marked a new direction for the magazine.

Intentionally sparking a conversation about diversity within the industry, Enninful has been keen to highlight and include BME people working in fashion.

One said Taylor looked: 'Absolutely amazing and confident and unbothered on the front cover on the cover of Vogue [sic].'

While Olivia Dealtry said: 'Just when I was about to renew my subscription to British Vogue, they go and put Taylor Swift on the cover.'
