Don't call me Lady Gaga! Singer Stefani Germanotta drops famous stage name for A Star Is Born

Lady Gaga worked hard to make a name for herself in the pop world.

But the 31-year-old singer is reinventing her over-the-top image for her first major foray into the world of big screen lead acting.

The star is dropping her now iconic stage name in favor of her real name -  Stefani Germanotta - for her credit in her upcoming movie A Star Is Born.

Go gaga for the Lady's Saint Laurent velvet babies

We won't be tossing our favorite black ankle boots anytime soon and Lady Gaga is really making us want to pick up another pair.

We spot her in an vintage floral catsuit, Alexander Mcqueen belt and these booties in the must have velvet style.

They're from the ubiquitous "Babies" line by Saint Laurent and we love their simplistic straight forward silhouette done in the trendiest fabric for this season.

They're the perfect accessory to take your off-duty look to next level with minimal effort which for us translates to an easy no brainer decision!

Especially since they're currently marked down to $591 over at MyTheresa (click right). But if you're in the market to steal Gaga's look for even less, why don't you take a look at some of the alternatives in the style carousel below?

It seems the move has been made in a bid to be taken more seriously in her new chosen craft.

Some industry insiders speculate it may hurt efforts to market the film, while others believe she has a strong enough following to carry it through, according to Variety

Her 'huge presence as Lady Gaga will be obvious to audiences,' an insider told the industry publication.

The source continued: 'There’s something appropriate about Gaga being credited as Stefani in the role of an unknown ingenue being discovered and turned into a star.'

To distinguish the actor from the entertainer for screen credibility and success is not a new technique in the industry.

Dwayne Johnson dropped his former wrestling personality The Rock and now stars in major blockbusters.

Former rapper Marky Mark returned to Mark Walberg for credit and has received two Oscar nominations.

A Star Is Born features Bradley Cooper, 42, who is also directing.

The film follows Cooper's character, a failing movie star, as he finds an unknown ingenue, Gaga's character, and leads her to fame as a singer.

The original starred Janet Gaynor in 1937. Judy Garland did a remake in 1954. Barbra Streisand took over the role in 1976.

The latest version is due to be released in 2018.
