'He was our first choice': The cast of Jumanji reboot claim Chris Hemsworth was originally meant to star in the film... and you'll never guess whose character he was supposed to play

It's being heralded as the remake of the year, going up against iconic films like Beauty And The Beast.

But the cast of Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle almost had Australia's own Chris Hemsworth starring as Moose Finbar instead of Kevin Hart.

Well, according to Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson, who appeared alongside Kevin and Jack Black on The Project on Friday, anyway.

'I've got to be honest with everyone in Australia... Chris Hemsworth was our first choice and then he dropped out,' the 45-year-old told The Project.

'Wait, that's not what you told me!' Kevin piped up, in mock agitation.

'Yeah he called us up and said hey mate, I want to be in it...' The Rock went on, beginning to laugh.

While it may not have really ever been on the cards to have Thor transported to the jungle, the cast members did open up about what it was like working in the 'real life' jungle as opposed to a CGI stage.

'I'm one of those actors that needs the real deal,' Kevin said.

'Yeah he's kind of like Daniel Day-Lewis,' The Rock chimed in.

The movie, which will debut on Boxing Day, also stars Jack Black, Karen Gillan and Nick Jonas.

Meanwhile in Byron Bay, Chris Hemsworth is promoting his new movie Avengers: Infinity War well before its May 4 release date.

He and his wife, model Elsa Pataky, also star alongside each other in upcoming war flick 12 Strong.
