Berlin's U2 metro line has gained a whole new significance after playing host to a secret gig by its musical namesake.
Commuters were treated to a mini concert on Berlin's U-Bahn this week when Irish rockers U2 performed as buskers to promote their new album.
Frontman Bono and lead guitarist The Edge boarded a private train hired by Universal Music at the city's Olympic Stadium, near the western end of the U2 line, and travelled to Deutsche Oper, where they alighted to perform a 15 minute set.

The duo were joined by approximately 120 fans, who received tickets from local radio station Radioeins.
The music, which was performed with just a guitar and a microphone, started at around 1pm and included a song from their new album 'Songs of Experience', as well as classic hit 'Sunday Bloody Sunday.'
The band also performed 'One' from the band's 1991 album Achtung Baby, which was famously largely written in Berlin and drew a lot of inspiration from German reunification.

'This song was written in this city. Therefore it feels right to play it here - especially at present times. A song about the fact that we need to support each other,' Bono noted.
He also joked that its was great that Berlin has decided to name a subway line in their honour.
Berlin has 10 underground lines, with nine lines numbered up from U1 to U9 and the tenth line named U55.
The pair performed a new single as well as major hits including 'One' and 'Sunday Bloody Sunday'
This is not the first time U2 has performed an impromptu gig on the underground. In May 2015, the band performed a surprise set on New York's subway.
'Songs of Experience' is U2's fourteenth album.
It was completed last year but they delayed its release after the surprise election of Donald Trump as US President.
The band said at the time they wanted 'breathing space' to consider what they wanted to say.
'We just went, "Hold on a second – we’ve got to give ourselves a moment to think about this record and about how it relates to what’s going on in the world",' The Edge said last year.
