Knowing that Alex will see the self-harm scars on his stomach, Aaron shies away from Alex's advances and pulls away from a kiss.

The rejection causes Alex to leave and prompts Aaron to become more upset over his hesitation.

It is then revealed later on that Aaron's self-harming past is the reason for the rebuff, when he takes off his shirt to reveal his scars.

Talking to the Radio Times, Danny explains that Aaron knows he has to explain his past, something he may not be ready to do.

'It's a difficult thing to talk about - He's ashamed of it, but he's also justified it in his mind. It was a dark time in his life, but he feels that he's more mature now.'

'He just thinks that Alex will freak and won't want to see him any more. Aaron doesn't want to be left alone again.'

Danny is hopefully for some happier news in the New Year, saying: 'For the sake of Aaron's mental health, I'd like to see him be with somebody who won't try to change him or complicate his life.

'I'm also a big fan of Robert and Aaron, so I'm torn between the two.'

Aaron's long running history of self-harm began after being arrested for the murder of Jackson Walsh in 2010.

Not ready: Danny says Aaron's self harm is a difficult thing to talk about - 'It was a dark time in his life, but he feels that he's more mature now.'
