Gothenburg-born Alicia's outfit featured canary yellow floral patterns across a white field, and it was hemmed not far above the knee.

Her sleeves were slightly sheer, and she balanced on a pair of ankle-strap heels.

Alicia's wavy brown hair was tucked elegantly behind her ears, but otherwise allowed to tumble freely over her shoulders.

She stood for the photos behind a display of massive lettering spelling out the title of her new film's name - with a black arrow darting across it.

Lara Croft originated in the Tomb Raider video game franchise that was launched in 1996, and was since immortalized by Angelina Jolie in two movies - one released in 2001 and the other in 2003.

The new film is directed by Roar Uthaug and features a formidable cast including Kristin Scott Thomas, Dominic West, Nick Frost and Walton Goggins.

Alicia, who won an Oscar for her turn in the 2015 period drama The Danish Girl, told Vanity Fair: 'When I was asked to take on this role I got really excited - Lara Croft is a truly iconic character.'

Calling Lara 'a model for many young women' Alicia explained: 'She’s trying to carve out her place in the world and connect her future with her past.

'She also has a fantastic mix of traits—tough, smart, vulnerable, plus she’s kick ass!'

Apparently, Lara's 'uniquely different to other characters I have taken on,' making it 'a lot of fun trying to get into Lara’s head and the challenge of getting to grips with such a physical role is an element of this project that I find an absolute thrill.'
