Jessica Biel and her business partners are being accused of withholding nearly $500,000 in tips from employees at her kid-friendly LA restaurant, Au Fudge.
Nine employees are now suing them for $1.5 million after getting nowhere when they tried to talk to the owners. 'We really did not want to file any lawsuits,' says Connor Gleason. 'At the end of the day, we're doing what's right, we're fighting for money that's rightfully ours.'
They claim that the majority of their income came from working at special events that cost companies including Netflix and Amazon up to $90,000 for an occasion.
'There would be multiple events per week and you would be working tirelessly and we would walk away with pennies,' Connor said. 'We felt really cheated out of our hard-earned money.'
Five of the nine employees at Jessica Biel's kid-friendly LA restaurant Au Fudge who are suing the star and her business partners for $1.5 million.
Another former staffer, Kirstyn Toney, says 'these companies, they thought they were tipping the staff, and they were really just tipping Jessica Biel.'
Lawyers for Au Fudge released a statement: 'The company and its investors strongly dispute the allegations … it looks forward to vigorously defending itself before the court.'
But the young employees claim it is true and when they confronted the owners they got nowhere, with Jessica avoiding the confrontation. 'She kept silent,' says Connor, 'but all the other owners said that everything was going to be made right, and it never was.'
