Snowfall in Buffalo created white out conditions as the Bills took on the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday afternoon.

The game began under a near impenetrable blizzard due to a major lake-effect storm blowing in off nearby Lake Erie.

The snow fell so hard a half-hour before kickoff it was nearly impossible to see New Era Field's west-end scoreboard from the east-end stands.

Despite not even being able to see the ball on some plays, the Bills squeezed out a 13-7 overtime win against the Colts.

Before the game crews were seen clearing the field and shoveling snow in the stands ahead of the 1pm kick off.

The snowfall would continue, and create nightmare conditions for the players throughout the game.

Colts kicker Adam Vinatieri who has a 88 percent field goal percentage this year missed a kick during the first half against the Bills.

Only when the game was in overtime was visibility better, but by then, the field had a thick coating of snow on it.

Players such as Ryan Davis and Shamarko Thomas, took to making snow angels on the field.

At one point, a few Bills players started a snowball fight in the 30-second timeout before the next play.

And several photos showed dedicated fans sitting in the stands as they were covered in snow such as one shared by Matt Witt Meyer.

Early in the third quarter, fans were even treated to a rare meteorological event of 'thunder snow,' as lightning flashed over the stadium. The game was not stopped.

Sean McCoy scored on a 21-yard run with 1:33 left in overtime to secure the Buffalo Bills' 13-7 win over the Indianapolis Colts in a wintry, white-out setting best suited for snow shoes and sled dogs.

McCoy finished with 156 yards rushing and topped the 1,000-yard mark for the sixth time in his career on a slick, snow-covered field.

The Bills' sideline erupted after McCoy's touchdown, with numerous players running on to the field to either make snow angels or engage in celebratory snowball fights.

Buffalo (7-6) stayed alive in the AFC playoff picture, while the Colts (3-10) were mathematically eliminated from playoff contention.

McCoy's touchdown came on Buffalo's second possession of overtime. Facing third-and-2, McCoy found a crease up the middle and had enough footing to cut to his left and scamper into the end zone untouched.
