She’s better known for playing haughty, upper-class English women, however Dame Kristin Scott Thomas proved what a versatile actress she is this week.

The English Patient star, 57, who has lived in France since she was 19, shared this picture of herself online dressed up as French rock star Johnny Hallyday, who has died of lung cancer at the age of 74.

Hallyday died of lung cancer shortly before 3 am on 6 December 2017 in Marnes-la-Coquette, near Paris, at the age of 74

In the shoot for a French magazine, she looks a far cry from her usual glamorous self as she sports a fake moustache and beard to match Hallyday’s, while fashioning her hair into a quiff and holding a cigarette between her lips.

‘It’s my homage to the great man. Not convinced by the similarity but it was fun,’ she explains.

‘I think everyone has been asked, but no, I’ve never been tempted,’ the 37-year-old Essex-born pin-up tells me at a party in Central London. ‘I don’t watch those shows — I’ve never found them entertaining. I’m quite a sad person who watches Blue Planet. That’s what I call television.’

Perhaps he can curl up in front of David Attenborough’s programme with his new girlfriend, barrister Stephanie Mendoros.

‘But if Shakespeare could invent witches for Macbeth, as far as I’m concerned Peter Morgan can invent extra corgis for the Queen.’ Crown creator Morgan hardly needs his ego boosted any more than it already is with comparisons to the Bard.
