A Caribbean honeymoon nearly turned into a medical nightmare when a newlywed bride was almost mauled by a shark.
Sarah Illig said that she's lucky to still have her arm after she went swimming with the predators as part of a resort attraction at her hotel.
'I felt a whoosh of water, something clamped down on my arm and I assumed my husband was playing a prank on me.'

Footage of the incident captured by her husband, Evan Carroll, shows Illig recoil almost immediately in pain, swimming away as quickly as possible from the marine animal.

'Less than a second later I realized how much it hurt and looked past where my goggles were blocking my side vision to see the shark (bigger than myself) latched on to my arm.'
'I pulled away and got out of there,' she added.
Carroll, who works as a real estate agent in Charleston, South Carolina, posted pictures of the bloody aftermath to social media on Monday, showing where the predator had sunk its teeth.
Illig later posted the footage captured on camera to her Facebook and Instagram, appearing to take the incident in stride.
'Ended the honeymoon with a bang (bite),' she wrote, adding 'Check out the surprise and very rare nurse shark bite in the video and don't forget the volume to hear the crunchhhhh.'

The sharks are a popular attraction at a number of Caribbean resorts and rarely bite humans unless provoked
Friends and curious spectators almost immediately posted questions to the shark-bitten bride, with one person asking if she lost any skin.
'Yes! If we were home we would have gotten some stitches but it worked out not getting them!,' Illig wrote.
'Only had a bunch of flesh wounds along my arm. We were worried about staph or another infection but it's healing great!'
She added: 'So glad we did (film it) because no one would believe it!! Scared the heckkkkk out of me!
'Evan had the GoPro under water filming and couldn't even tell it happened since he was above water!'
The sharks, according to The Sun, are a popular attraction at a number of Caribbean resorts, with attacks considered to be an extremely rare occurrence unless provoked.
Illig had swum with the predators during an earlier leg of the honeymoon, posting pictures of the herself beside three of the massive sharks alongside a yacht.
Nurse sharks are not known to be predatory towards human and are not listed in the top five most dangerous species, The Sun reported.
