Christopher Plummer receives Golden Globe nod weeks after replacing shamed Kevin Spacey in All The Money In the World ... as Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman go head-to-head for Best TV Actress in Hollywood's first post-scandal awards season

  • Director Ridley Scott replaced Kevin Spacey in the film during reshoots in light of sexual misconduct allegations
  • The nomination is for Best Supporting Actor Golden Globe for his turn as oil tycoon J. Paul Getty and comes just weeks after he was drafted in to the role
  • The Shape of Water looks set to be the film to beat with seven nominations, while award season regulars Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks are favourites for acting awards for The Post
  • Big Little Lies is up for six nods including five acting prizes for Nicole Kidman, Reese Witherspoon, Laura Dern, Shailene Woodley and Alexander Skarsgard
  • The nominations mark the beginning of the first awards season since Hollywood was rocked by a widespread sexual misconduct scandal, which was prompted by the fall of movie mogul Harvey Weinstein

Christopher Plummer has been nominated for a Golden Globe for his turn in All The Money In the World, just weeks after he replaced shamed Kevin Spacey as the first awards season following Hollywood's sexual misconduct scandal gets underway.

The veteran actor, 87, was drafted in to replace Spacey, 58, in the role of J. Paul Getty after a series of sexual assault allegations were aimed at the actor.

And the move has already worked in the film's favour - Plummer is up for Best Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture for his last minute role. It has also scored two other major nods; Michelle Williams grabbed a Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture - Drama nomination while Ridley Scott is up for Best Director.

Meanwhile, Hugh Jackman's turn in The Greatest Showman has earned the film three possible wins.

In the TV stakes, Big Little Lies is the big contender - another hit with six nods under its belt.

In the first part of the announcement, the Reese Witherspoon-produced series about the secrets of a well-heeled Californian suburb looked set to be a main contender at the 2018 prizegiving.

Veep - one of the most celebrated shows in recent years - didn't land a Globe nod for the first time. It has previously been up for Best Comedy three years running alongside Best Actress in a Comedy Series for Julia Louis Dreyfus a staggering six consecutive years.

In the silver screen categories, Wonder Woman was also left out in the cold, despite critical acclaim and huge box office success.

The 75th annual Golden Globe Awards announcements were conducted on Monday morning as Hollywood still stands in the shadow of sexual misconduct scandals which have hit the headlines over the past year.

The second batch of nods came later on NBC's Today show, where less than two weeks earlier, longtime host Matt Lauer was fired following multiple allegations of sexual misconduct.

Lauer was just the latest media figure to be toppled by the ongoing revelations that have followed the ouster of former Weinstein Co. co-chairman Harvey Weinstein.

Spacey - who picked up a Globe for his turn in now axed Netflix show House of Cards in 2013 - has faced a series of sexual misconduct claims on and off film and TV sets.

Amazon's Transparent and star Jeffrey Tambor have also been regular Globes nominees, and could be again Monday for the show's fourth season. Two women have come forward in the past month to accuse Tambor of sexual harassment, including co-star Trace Lysette and his former assistant. Tambor has said 'the idea that I would deliberately harass anyone is simply and utterly untrue'.

The Globes will be the most prominent platform yet in Hollywood's awards season to confront the post-Weinstein landscape. Presented and chosen by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, their deliberations aren't representative of the larger industry. The HFPA is composed of approximately 90 largely unknown international journalists.

This year will be hosted by Seth Meyers on January 7.
