Ashes 2017 LIVE- Australia vs England 3rd Test at the WACA

Having lost the first two Tests of the series, defeat for England here will see the urn return Down Under. Joe Root's side are now drinking in last-chance saloon. You can follow all the first-day action with Sportsmail's GLEN WILLIAMS, with PAUL NEWMAN and RICHARD GIBSON providing updates and session reports from Perth.

Bonucci consoles distraught AC Milan team-mate Donnarumma

The 18-year-old featured in Milan's comfortable 3-0 Coppa Italia victory over Verona on Wednesday night, but following their routine win, the on looking fans unleashed a scathing attack on Donnarumma. The banner, stretching across three whole sections of the San Siro, took a cruel dig at the keeper's 'parasite' brother, as well as insisting their patience had run out.

LAWRENCE BOOTH: The International Cricket Council spoke of its 'grave concern' on Wednesday night after receiving information allegedly relating to attempts to fix the third Ashes Test.

MATT LAWTON - CHIEF SPORTS REPORTER: Chris Froome has turned to the one of the world's leading anti-doping lawyers in a bid to avoid a potential 12-month ban for a failed drugs test.

They're all at it. How many times have you heard that said? How many times has a sport, an entire Olympic movement, been damned by presumption and ignorance?

England team director Andrew Strauss will not return to the Ashes as his wife has been diagnosed with cancer. Strauss departed the tour after Joe Root's team went 2-0 down in Adelaide.

CHARLES SALE - SPORTS AGENDA: Whisper Films, co-owned by David Coulthard, have been commissioned to make the programme about the warring Premier League managers.

Swansea 0-4 Manchester City: David Silva nets double

RIATH AL-SAMARRAI AT THE LIBERTY STADIUM: No spilt milk on the tunnel floor, just the featherless carcass of a Swan that took an almighty bludgeoning. Manchester City can play their music as loud as they want if they keep this unprecedented and absurd run of form going. This was their 15th straight win, making a top-flight record, and who will end it? Who will stand in the way of such an immense force and not get trodden into the frost? It is premature to add this vintage to the discussion of the Premier League’s all-time finest because the job is not yet done. But it will be soon enough at this rate and when it is, they will have to be prominent in the reckoning. An invincible season? Quite possibly, from the body of evidence garnered this side of Christmas.

Manchester United 1-0 Bournemouth: Romelu Lukaku scores

CHRIS WHEELER AT OLD TRAFFORD: There was hardly a hint of celebration from Romelu Lukaku. So much so, you had to check the Belgium striker wasn't offside when he headed Manchester United's winner at Old Trafford last night. Lukaku turned away after scoring in the 25th minute without emotion. He briefly hugged Anthony Martial and eventually blew a couple of kisses towards the stands, but that was about it. He couldn't have looked less impressed if someone had just hit him over the head with a plastic bottle or sprayed him with milk.

MATT BARLOW AT LONDON STADIUM: Arsene Wenger’s travels in the east prompted him to divulge a deep admiration for the Japanese art of sumo wrestling before this one.

DOMINIC KING AT ANFIELD: Liverpool were held to a frustrating stalemate at Anfield as they failed to get back to winning ways following recent Merseyside derby woes.

CRAIG HOPE AT ST JAMES' PARK: This was his 15th against the club who, at one point, met with Rooney's agent as they tried to rival Manchester United's offer some 13 years ago.

SAM CUNNINGHAM AT ST MARY'S STADIUM: Claude Puel produced the perfect riposte to his negative perception at Southampton in a first return to his former club with Leicester City.

ADAM CRAFTON AT WEMBLEY STADIUM: Hueng-min Son found the Brighton net late on to send Spurs into the top four. But it was Aurier's bizarre goal that will steal the headlines.

Belgrade derby erupts into scenes of bloody violence

The iconic and fiercely passionate Belgrade derby between rivals Partizan and Red Star erupted into scenes of bloody violence on Wednesday night, with police having to escort wounded fans down the touchline. The Serbian fixture has always been an infamously fiery affair, with tempers often flaring both on the pitch and in the stands. As the game played out, it was soon discovered that a number of the visiting Red Star fans had got their hands on tickets to sit in the home end, according to reports.

Arsenal going backwards under Arsene Wenger - Ferdinand

Rio Ferdinand has accused Arsenal's players of going backwards under manager Arsene Wenger. The Gunners were held to a frustrating 0-0 draw at West Ham United on Wednesday night in the Premier League. Wenger's side are in seventh place following the trip to London Stadium and 19 points behind league leaders Manchester City.

Mesut Ozil favours a move to Manchester United over Barcelona should he leave Arsenal in the coming months. A new deal worth £235,000 a week has already been turned down.

Financier Staveley and PCP Capital Partners are hopeful of reaching an agreement with current owner Mike Ashley and a deal could be inked for the purchase of the club as soon as next week.

Another victory and another convincing performance saw City break the Premier League record for the most consecutive wins as they beat Swansea to a pulp in their own backyard.

PREMIER LEAGUE THINGS YOU MISSED: Martial misses sitter

The Premier League served up a full dose of midweek action and with that came plenty of drama. Manchester City won a record-breaking 15th game on the spin as they thumped Swansea, with rivals Manchester United labouring to a narrow victory at home to Brighton and Chelsea taking three points from their clash with Huddersfield at the John Smith Stadium.  There are now four points between the top three and fourth, with Guardiola’s side enjoying a commanding 11 point lead. Sportsmail takes a look at the things you missed.

JACK GAUGHAN AT THE LIBERTY STADIUM: For all Pep Guardiola’s genius, converting Silva into a midfielder willing to drive beyond markers and finish moves is a hugely unexpected change.

KIERAN GILL AT THE LONDON STADIUM: West Ham and Arsenal drew 0-0 at the London Stadium on Wednesday. Here, Sportsmail's Kieran Gill highlights five things we learned from the game.

Pep Guardiola hailed his Manchester City record-breakers for the way they win the ball back ‘like animals’. Wednesday night’s hammering of Swansea was their 15th win on the spin.

KIERAN GILL AT THE LONDON STADIUM: Arsenal produced 33 shots at United but lost 3-1 earlier this month. On Wednesday night, they produced 22 but were held to a goalless draw.

Real Madrid 2-1 Al Jazira: Gareth Bale scores winner

REAL MADRID 2-1 AL JAZIRA - PETE JENSON: Gareth Bale climbed off the bench to save Real Madrid from the humiliation of needing extra time to beat Abu Dhabi side Al Jazira in a bizarre World Club Cup semi-final. Bale scored the winner eight minutes from time to give his team victory. Cristiano Ronaldo scored his 15th goal of the season to equalize Al Jazira's shock opener. It was his sixth goal in the World Club Cup taking him past the record of five he previously held with Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez.

Man United star Marcos Rojo shows off gruesome head wound

Marcos Rojo has revealed the grizzly head wound he picked up Manchester United's 2-1 loss against Manchester City. The defender and David Silva clashed heads while competing for the ball in the air during the first-half and both required treatment for injuries from club doctors. Rojo came off worse in the incident and had to leave the pitch to have the wound cleaned and treated.

West Ham and their London Stadium landlords are involved in a legal dispute over plans for more seating at the arena, the London Assembly was told on Wednesday.

'This s**** about to get heavy, I just settled all my lawsuits - f*** you, Eddie': Fury takes aim at Joshua's camp by rapping to Eminem

With his two-year doping ban back-dated, Tyson Fury has overcome another major obstacle as he bids to make a sensational return to boxing. It is no wonder he is in the mood for a song. The 29-year-old uploaded three videos to his Instagram on Wednesday; one of him singing along to 'Return of the Mac' by Mark Morrison while getting his hands wrapped, another of a rap aimed at Anthony Joshua's promoter Eddie Hearn and a third threatening to regain a boxing license with a foreign boxing board - not the British one that said it will review his status in January. It is the second clip which shows that Fury is already back to his best - verbally, at least - with his own take on Without Me by Eminem, which he said in the caption is a 'special message to Eddie Hearn.'

Stephen Smith posts photos after horrific ear injury

Super featherweight boxer Stephen Smith has posted recovery pictures of his ear after it was nearly ripped off during his fight with Francisco Vargas on Saturday night. The Englishman lost the fight when referee Russell Mora stopped the Vegas bout and called for the ringside doctor after the ninth round, as blood poured from his dangling severed ear. The injury occurred after a nasty clash of heads, which meant 'Swifty' Smith had to forfeit victory despite his willingness to carry on.

Tyson Fury will need to prove his physical and mental wellbeing before regaining his licence to fight after the British Boxing Board of Control confirmed on Wednesday.

Floyd Mayweather has toyed with the idea of a comeback but not in the sport from which he retired with a perfect 50-0 record. The boxing legend claims to have been offered a deal by the UFC.

Hibernian 1-2 Rangers

HIBERNIAN 1-2 RANGERS - STEPHEN McGOWAN AT EASTER ROAD: In the cold light of day Rangers will reflect on an old footballing truth. It’s better, sometimes, to be lucky than good. Hibernian will wake on Thursday asking themselves a stark question. How, precisely, did they contrive to lose this game? A fourth straight victory for Graeme Murty and Rangers came down, in the end, to a frantic three minute spell before half-time. A period when the game, dominated for so long by the home side, turned on its head.

Celtic 3-1 Hamilton: Bhoys maintain five-point lead

CELTIC 3-1 HAMILTON: Cancel the Philadelphia lawyer and put the pre-nup back in the locked drawer. Talk of a squabble between Brendan Rodgers and Leigh Griffiths can be dismissed as a work of fantasy. Three games without a kick in earnest, the striker’s elongated exile from the Celtic side had become the talk of the steamy in the East End.

West Ham will sign ‘two or three new players’ in January, according to chairman David Sullivan. David Moyes is expected to make moves in the window as he looks to bolster his squad.

PHIL TAYLOR INTERVIEW: I'd rate my career seven out of 10

INTERVIEW BY KIERAN GILL: When Phil Taylor has thrown his last dart at Alexandra Palace, there will be the odd burly bloke holding back the tears. Taylor's retirement will mark the end of an era. Joe Root defends England coaches after Anderson criticism

PAUL NEWMAN IN PERTH: Joe Root defended England’s coaching staff after Jimmy Anderson appeared to blame them for his poor bowling with the new ball at the start of the second Ashes Test. The England captain goes into Thursday’s make or break third Test at the WACA on the defensive after his vice-captain seemed to point the finger at backroom staff for letting Australia amass a match-winning score at Adelaide. Anderson said in his column in The Daily Telegraph on Wednesday: ‘I bowled too short in the first innings at Adelaide. We should have bowled a touch fuller. That was an oversight from the players on the field but also from the coaches who could have had an input too, which was frustrating.’

On Thursday the final ever Ashes Test at the famous WACA ground in Perth will get underway, with England seeking a win to get themselves back in the series.

Controversy caused by ‘headbuttgate’, Ben Duckett pouring a drink over Jimmy Anderson’s head and the he ‘will he, won’t he’ circus surrounding Ben Stokes – has compounded defeats.

It was, said Colin Cowdrey, the ‘most generous act I ever knew in cricket’. The year was 1974-75, the venue Perth, and the temperature rising.

Bayern Munich 1-0 Cologne: Robert Lewandowski fires winner

BAYERN MUNICH 1-0 COLOGNE: Robert Lewandowski scored a 60th minute winner as Bayern Munich claimed a frustratingly narrow 1-0 win over the Bundesliga's bottom club Cologne on Wednesday night. The hosts struggled to convert their ample possession into goals but Lewandowski converted a well-rehearsed move to snatch all three points. Cologne arrived at the Allianz Arena yet to win a Bundesliga fixture as they continue to head towards the winter break with just three points from 16 matches so far.
