Black Friday in the big Cities

  • New York

Black Friday in New York is a real institution! Get ready for discounts of up to 80% and very strong competition: you will see campings in front of stores, long lines and shops open until midnight. Question is: in New York, who is NOT participating? From Apple, Macy’s or Barneys up to the luxurious Bergdorf Goodman! Strong suggestion: get up early!

  • Los Angeles

In LA, it’s all about diversity and creativity, also when it comes to shopping. You may have to consider skipping Thanksgiving dinner as some of the most popular stores start their sales already on Thursday night. And it may as well be worth it, if you’re interested in scoring something from Wal-mart, Sears, Toys “R” Us, Target, Best Buy or Macy’s.

  • Montreal

The temperature’s dropping and so are the prices! Even if some Canadians plan on crossing the border to the US to save even more during Black Friday, the event is getting more and more interesting in local ground in the last years. Retailers believe that a snowy Friday is a lucky one! So get ready to cash in some savings in Montreal.

  • Toronto

Toronto might be known for its diversity, but everyone loves a bargain! And last year’s event counted with packed malls, full of savvy shoppers hoping to score some of the best deals. Black Friday is finally getting established in Toronto, adding to the importance of planning your shopping and check for deals online to avoid some queues!

What’s Black Friday?

Black Friday is a number one shopping event that happens every November where customers can get the biggest discounts and deals of the whole year. It is still relatively new to the UK but in 2015 shoppers in the US spent approximately $12 billion on that weekend and of that figure, almost a quarter was generated by online sales.

Black Friday is a big deal to most online shops, especially when customers are willing to spend big over the course of the weekend. It is continuously growing in popularity with more and more shops around the world taking part and prices becoming more competitive every year.

Black Friday Date

Of course Black Friday has a given date – it is always the first Friday after thanksgiving. However, the sales from different shops start at very different points in time. We have observed the following trends during past years:

Black Friday Week

From Monday on, watch out for the so-called “Black Week”. More and more, brands start their amazing discounts early, satisfying even the most impatient of the shoppers. So start your deal hunting rather earlier than later, and you’re guaranteed to be amazed with this year’s offers.

An “Early” Black Friday

Not every shop starts its sale on Friday at midnight. You can always find some deals upfront. On this page you can already get great deals today, even if not a part of the „official“ Black Friday Offers” yet. Come back later to find some of the best bargains, before the big crowd joins.

The Black Friday Weekend

The “Black Friday Weekend” is the entire weekend following the official date. On Saturday and Sunday you can expect some selected new deals, and significantly more on Cyber Monday. Stay tuned and come back during those days as well!

Black Friday meaning, origin,and history

Black Friday began as a clever way for retailers to clear out all of their old stock by reducing prices outrageously before the Christmas season officially starts at the end of November, in order to make room for new stock.

Black Friday has actually been around for a long time. In fact, the first event happened in 1932 in the US. But it wasn’t until the 1960s before people began to name it “Black Friday”.

Why the term ‘Black Friday’? The most commonly repeated story is because retailers book keepers used to record losses using red ink, and profits using black ink. After retailers recorded operating losses for an entire year, on the day after Thanksgiving, profits would sky rocket (recorded in black ink of course), hence the term was coined.

What Day is Black Friday?

Black Friday is always the Friday after Thanksgiving. As Thanksgiving is always the fourth Friday in November, it traditionally falls in line with the start in the Christmas season. In 2018, it is on November 23rd.

What is the difference between Black Friday and Cyber Monday?

Historically Black Friday occured in store with customers rushing to grab as many deals as possible before they’re all taken. The experience can be rough but many enjoy the thrill of it.

Cyber Monday, on the other hand, is an event that is carried out almost entirely online where customers don’t have to walk in store to fight off other deal-seekers.

Nowadays, as shoppers and retailers appreciate the convenience of online shopping, you can find nearly all sales and promotions online as well. If you are lucky you’ll find discounts that are available exclusively for online customers.
