That's a wrap: Daniel Day-Lewis attends premiere in New York for his 'final movie' after announcing decision to quit acting
If he's to be believed, Phantom Thread is the last movie that Daniel Day-Lewis will ever make.
Which means that the movie's premiere Monday night in New York marks a watershed in Hollywood.
Day-Lewis, who has won three Best Actor Oscar, was nominated Monday morning for a Golden Globe for his performance in the drama as a dressmaker in post-war London.

Day-Lewis stars as a dressmaker in post-war Britain whose world is turned upside down by a young lover who becomes his muse. He was nominated Monday for a Golden Globe for the role
In June, Day-Lewis put out a statement announcing his decision to quit acting all together following the making of Phantom Thread.
In an interview with W magazine, published at the end of last month, the actor acknowledged he feels 'great sadness' at that decision but explains he felt compelled to take it.
'The impulse to quit took root in me, and that became a compulsion. It was something I had to do,' he said.
'Before making the film, I didn’t know I was going to stop acting. I do know that Paul and I laughed a lot before we made the movie. And then we stopped laughing because we were both overwhelmed by a sense of sadness,'Day-Lewis explained.
He added: 'I dread to use the overused word ‘artist,’ but there’s something of the responsibility of the artist that hung over me. I need to believe in the value of what I’m doing. The work can seem vital. Irresistible, even. And if an audience believes it, that should be good enough for me. But, lately, it isn’t.'
