Meghan McCain broke down in tears on The View on Wednesday as she talked about her father's cancer diagnosis in an interview with Joe Biden.
The emotional interview came as Sen. McCain's office announced he had been hospitalized for 'normal side effects of his ongoing cancer therapy'.
Sen. John McCain was diagnosed with the same form of aggressive brain cancer that Biden's son Beau died of two years ago.
'I think about Beau almost every day,' Meghan said, 'and I was told that this doesn't get easier but you cultivate the tools to work with this and live with this.'

Biden's son Beau died of the same type of cancer that Meghan's father John McCain was recently diagnosed with
She then started to cry as she tried to ask Biden what tips he had for families dealing with cancer.
At that point, Biden came over and consoled Meghan, holding her hand as he described all the breakthroughs researchers have been making in cancer treatment.
'There is hope and if anyone can make it, it's her dad,' Biden said.
He went on to call Sen. McCain, who he helped Barack Obama beat in the 2008 presidential election, one of his 'best friends'.
'Her dad goes after me hammer and tongs, we're like two brothers who were somehow raised by different fathers or something because of our points of view,' Biden, 75, said with a smile.
He then made Meghan start laughing when he recalled how McCain had told him to 'get the hell off the ticket' at one point during the 2008 campaign.
But despite their political differences, Biden said they are friends because McCain is the kind of person who would drop anything to help a friend.
'If I picked up the phone tonight and called John McCain and said "I'm on the corner of Second and Vine in Oshkosh and I need your help, come" - he would get on a plane and come and I would for him too,' Biden said.
Biden said the most important thing he learned from his son's cancer battle is how important it is to maintain hope.
Meghan McCain got engaged shortly after her father's cancer diagnosis in July. She celebrated her marriage to Ben Domenech last month with her father and mother at the family's home in Sedona, Arizona

'The thing that I've found was, and Beau insisted on and your dad is gonna insist on, is you gotta maintain hope. There's hope, you have to have hope,' Biden said.
Meghan was likely extra emotional on Wednesday because her father has been hospitalized.
'Senator McCain is currently receiving treatment at Walter Reed Medical Center for normal side effects of his ongoing cancer therapy. As ever, he remains grateful to ihs physicians for their excellent care, and his friends and supporters for their encouragement and good wishes. Senator McCain looks forward to returning to work as soon as possible,' his office said in a statement on Wednesday.
McCain, 81, was diagnosed with glioblastoma, an aggressive brain tumor, in July.
The survival rate is approximately 14 months, even with chemotherapy and radiation.
In a September interview on 60 Minutes, McCain said doctors said the prognosis was bad.
'Some say 3 percent, some say 14 percent. You know it’s—it’s a very poor prognosis,' he told CBS. 'So I just said, "I understand. Now we’re going to do what we can, get the best doctors we can find and do the best we can, and at the same time celebrate with gratitude a life well lived."'
One thing Meghan has done for her dad since his diagnosis is make sure he got to attend her wedding.
Meghan became engaged the same month her father's diagnosis was announced, to conservative writer and commentator Ben Domenech. They were married late last month at the McCain family ranch in Sedona, Arizona.
