With Christmas fast-approaching, shoppers are rushing out to buy the latest gizmos and gadgets, but when it comes to investing it could be the oldest products that are the best. Investment trusts that are 100 years old or more are producing bumper returns for investors who have realised the value of these golden oldies.

ASK TONY: Switching to a new O2 tariff made my bill soar

I was paying mobile phone network provider O2 £19 a month for a contract, which included unlimited minutes. I was told I could reduce the cost to £17 a month for 1,000 minutes, which, it estimated, would be adequate for our use. But we ended up with huge bills. O2 offered me another agreement with unlimited minutes for £20 per month.

Its one-year rate at 1.45% is attractive compared with big banks and building societies - although you can do better with newer banks. The NS&I; bonds are also only on sale online.
