SEBASTIAN SHAKESPEARE: Comedian Peter Kay sees his fortune rise by £1.8million despite cancelling his £40million 100-date UK tour
Comedian Peter Kay shocked fans this week by cancelling his £40 million tour, but it seems he can afford to take the financial hit.
The Bolton-born funnyman proves he’s still comedy gold, as new financial documents show that his fortune has increased by £1.8 million.
Kay has a combined £29.5 million in his two performing arts companies, Good Night Vienna Productions and Hussein Traders, at the latest count.

The previous year, up to March 31 2016, the Car Share and Phoenix Nights star had amassed £27.7million in the two companies. Kay, 44, cancelled his Have Gags, Will Travel tour on Wednesday citing ‘unforeseen family circumstances’, and promised to refund almost two million fans who paid up to £60 per ticket.
His total fortune is estimated at £50 million, but he still buys bottles of Tizer at the Co-op Late Shop, and prioritises spending time at his £900,000 home in Bolton, Greater Manchester, with wife Susan and family.
‘I like to be low-profile,’ he says.
The BBC’s departing head of news James Harding has been on a £340,000 salary, but he chose a rather frugal location for his leaving party: the local Wahaca Mexican restaurant.
It was an intimate affair, with several people surprised not to make the guest list. My source tells me: ‘His departure was announced in October and, given the jubilation that was met with, he may not have expected many people to turn up.’
BBC staffers have become increasingly disgruntled with Harding’s promotion of newspaper executives with little apparent broadcasting experience to senior roles at the Corporation.
Supermodel's chips tip for fighting a cold
Supermodels tend to turn their noses up at greasy food, but Erin O’Connor, who received an MBE from the Queen last month, believes it’s a good way to overcome ill health.
Clad in a black turtleneck and trousers, which she teamed with sunglasses despite being indoors, the 39-year-old beanpole tucked into an £8 portion of chips at Claridge’s in London yesterday, where she was joined by celebrated Vogue illustrator David Downton.
‘Fighting a chest infection her way . . . with chips,’ he wrote next to this picture, which he shared online.
Meghan Markle won’t want to put a foot wrong at her first Christmas with the Queen.
Might she win over HM with some Corgi socks? A navy and denim pair is priced at £14.95 at Prince Charles’s Highgrove gift shop. According to the Highgrove website, the ‘fun’ unisex socks are the ‘perfect gift for dog lovers’.
Palace insiders say the Queen loves presents that are ‘cheap and amusing’, so Corgi-themed footwear should fit the bill.

Victoria star dazzles fans in fizzy tartan
After confirming she will reprise her lead role in ITV’s Victoria for its third series next year, it seems Jenna Coleman is making the most of contemporary dress before squeezing back into her period costumes.
The Lancashire-born brunette, 31, showed off her vibrant style at a party in New York this week in a £1,895 Burberry red tartan laminated trench coat teamed with Burberry tartan cotton high cone-heel sandals worth £595.
Perhaps her love of colourful garments runs in the family. ‘Growing up, my grandma lived ten doors away, so I used to nip to her house and play dress-up,’ says Jenna.
‘Her wardrobe has lots of chunky necklaces and dresses in bright patterns.’
Also confirmed to return to the show next year is Jenna’s boyfriend Tom Hughes, who plays her on-screen husband Prince Albert.
The couple, who struck up a passionate romance after they started filming together, have recently bought a house in North London.
