A bookmaker has refused to apologise after posting a picture of a darts fan 'blacked-up' as Shadow Home Secretary Diane Abbott.

Star Sports shared the image of a fan attending the PDC World Darts Championship at Alexandra Palace while wearing black make-up as well as a wig and glasses.

The man, who has not been named, also wore a red suit jacket as well as a Labour rosette.

The tweet - which quickly went viral and was shared thousands of times - was captioned: 'An early contender for best fancy dress costume at the #PDC #WorldDartsChampionships tonight at #AllyPally.'

A study by Amnesty International revealed Ms Abbott was the most targeted of all female MPs, with 45 per cent of tweets sent to her in the six weeks before June's election classed as abusive.

But the Star Sports has refused to apologise saying that 'you're not going to please everybody'.
