He told TalkSport: 'Sometimes you make mistakes. I held my hands up. I made a mistake.
'I knew straight away I had made a stupid mistake and I have to move on. It is not nice.
'I've got children and it is not nice for them to see that and I try to move on and learn from it which I feel I am doing.'
Rooney, father to his three sons Kai, Klay and Kit, was banned from driving for two years and ordered to carry out 120 hours of community service following an appearance in court.
But he says his shifts at the garden centre, where he works alongside adults with learning difficulties, is 'relaxing' - and even vowed to continue helping out once he'd finished his court-ordered hours.
Last week Rooney was pictured visiting a children's hospice where his wife's sister in 2013.

The charity is close to Rooney's heart after it cared for Coleen's younger sister Rosie who passed away aged 14 after a life-long battle with Retts Syndrome.
Last month Coleen confirmed she had forgiven him for being caught in a car with party girl Laura Simpson.
Rooney's full interview will be broadcast on Alan Brazil's TalkSport show on Sunday.
