The evergreen star also revealed that he doesn't think he will quite live up to the parenting skills his dad had.

He wrote: 'I will certainly fall short of the father my pop was, but - I’m going to give it my all! #Balance #BillStamos #Hero.'

The happy couple had unveiled the news on Wednesday - having only announced their engagement a matter of weeks ago.

Speaking to People magazine, he said: 'I always wanted to be a dad. Clearly I had to do some work on myself, first.

'I have a youthful thing. People say, "Oh, you look young. You'll start believing you're gonna live to be 150." And then you wake up and go, "No, man, this is it. This is not a rehearsal."'

The Scream Queens actor admitted that he felt 'that ship has sailed' when it came to children; until his girlfriend found she was pregnant.

'Then, I said I better have a ring on her finger because it's the right thing to do, and I wanted to marry her anyway,' he said. John popped the question at Disneyland.

'I asked...she said yes! ...And we lived happily ever after,' he wrote on social media, along with an emoji of a ring.

Caitlin is an actress with previous roles in The Vampire Diaries, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, and NCIS: Los Angeles.  The pair have been dating since 2016.

Last year the actor said Caitlin had even won over his Fuller House co-stars.

'They all love her more than me. They're like, "Is Caitlin coming?"', he told Entertainment Tonight

'She's just a good person,' he gushed of his girlfriend.

In November, John dropped a hint that they were expecting, saying that having kids had 'always been his plan'.

'It's just taken me a lot longer than I anticipated. It would be a tragedy if I didn't have children and I finally found the right woman — the perfect woman,' he said at an event.

The brunette beauty will never forget breaking the news to John that she was pregnant, recalling: 'The look on John's face when I told him we were pregnant was priceless. It was the look of a man who has wanted a family of his own but wasn't sure it was going to happen for him. Now it is!

'[He has] the biggest, most loving and generous heart of anyone I know. I greatly admire his originality, creativity, ambition, work ethic and humour - all qualities I'm sure he'll pass down to his child.

'He's always been wonderful with kids, and I'm sure he will be an amazing father.'

'I'll be a fun dad,' he predicted. 'I've been practicing for a long time. I've done every shtick you can do with a baby on TV ... all the bits and jokes and diaper gags. I'll probably just do all that.'

The couple have been keeping their relationship low-key, with Caitlin telling People: 'We like to keep our lives private because we've seen what relationships in the public eye can be like and we just like our privacy.

'We don't want the commentary from the masses about what our relationship is or should be. We're very happy together and we hope to be so for a long time.'

This engagement means John will be a groom for the second time in his life.

The actor was previously married for seven years to actress Rebecca Romijn, before their divorce in 2005.

John and Rebecca married in 1998, and their divorce was finalized in 2005.
