She was disappointed to lose the Glitterball trophy to Joe McFadden but Strictly fans slammed the trained ballet dancer for putting on a ballet-inspired dance.

Debbie McGee proved she was a good sport as well as brushing off the claims it was 'unfair' she drew on her ballerina roots for the final when she returned to work smiling at the Opera House in York on Sunday.

The presenter, 59, beamed as she headed into the theatre in colourful floral leggings and knee-high boots ahead of her Beauty and the Beast panto performance.

Keeping her look low-key, the professional ballet dancer shielded her eyes with huge sunglasses.

The Strictly Come Dancing hopeful will play the role of the dazzling fairy Adorabella Marigold Angelpie in the panto's version of traditional fairytale Beauty and the Beast.

Beauty and the Beast, which began on Friday 15, will run at the York theatre until Sunday January 7.

On Saturday's Strictly Come Dancing Holby City star Joe lifted the Glitterball trophy with his professional dance partner Katya Jones.

Debbie had stunned judges with her 'ethereal' performance to One Day I'll Fly Away by Vaults and she scooped a near-perfect score of 38 out of 40.

But viewers at home were left fuming as they claimed she had drew on her Royal Ballet School training to put on a sensational ballet-inspired showdance. 

Darcey, a trained ballerina herself, said: 'You are so perfectly petite, like this magical sparkle for Giovani, it is so endearing.

'How after that spinning lift, how did you find your balance after that? It is extraordinary work! Very, very beautiful.'

All a bit last minute! Debbie rushed into the theatre carrying her script to ensure she had a few extra moments to prepare herself for her performance 

However, viewers were outraged the trained ballerina had been allowed to perfom a ballet-inspired dance, tweeting: 'I see Debbie isn't even bothering hiding her ballet background anymore. Total travesty. She should never have been allowed on! #Strictly #fix

Also leaving the competition empty handed was Hollyoaks actress Gemma Atkinson.

But she proved to be gracious despite the loss as she was spotted emerging from the Village Hotel Club Watford in London on Sunday.

The 33-year-old soap star grinned ear-to-ear as she put on a trendy display while rolling out her suitcase.

Gemma looked delighted as she began her day by sporting a huge smile on her face as she exited the building. 

The beauty looked sensational in a black hoodie, with floral detailing on the side, along with a pair of skinny blue ripped jeans. 

She draped an oversized puffa jacket in one arm, while she lugged along a suitcase and large white carrier bag in the other.

The night before, Gemma and her dance partner Aljaž Škorjanec came in third on Strictly Come Dancing.

And while she had been partnered with Aljaž on the show, it was heavily rumoured that Gemma was cosying up to Gorka Marquez.

However, it has now been reported that Gorka has been romancing personal trainer Georgie Harris, 23, behind the former soap-star's back. 

'Gorka goes to the gym a lot, but he’s been heading to Georgie’s gym more and they spend a lot of time together,' it has been revealed to The Sun on Sunday.

While rumours swirled heavily of a romance with Gemma, it has appeared that Gorka has his sights set on another blonde. 

It was claimed that while Gemma indulged in the new Jumanji film at the cinema on Sunday, the Spanish hunk was said to be enjoying the company of Georgia. 

And with the source claiming he has been frequenting the personal trainer's gym more and more, it was continued: 'He never seems to talk about Gemma though, and just flirts so obviously with Georgie. They even film each other’s workouts to post on social media with gushing messages.'

A source told The Sun: 'Gemma wasn't impressed to see Gorka flirting with a beautiful dancer, brought in as an extra in the professional group of dancers for one of the big numbers at the Blackpool Tower Ballroom.
