The family's visit comes as Michael became a grandfather for the first time when his son Cameron, 39, welcomed a daughter into the world on Monday.

Catherine shared a shot of the family with the magnificent white marble edifice to love in the background, sweetly captioned: 'At the Taj Mahal with the three other “Wonders of the World” in my life.'

The actor also had a black sweater with him, which he wore as needed.

The proud father put his arm around teen daughter Carys, who looked darling in a taupe-colored, Indian-style dress with spaghetti-string straps.

A brunette like her mother, she tucked her tresses behind her ears while brother Dylan sported a white shirt just like his dad.

It seems the family may also have been at the monument on Monday as Catherine shared an Instagram video of her and Michael, who have been married 17 years, strolling toward the Taj Mahal hand-in-hand.

The Oscar-winning star captioned it: 'Breathtaking to view and experience. It’s just the ultimate love story.'

Catherine was referring to the fact that the Taj Mahal is, in fact, a mausoleum commissioned by Shah Jahan in 1631 in the memory of his wife Mumtaz Mahal, a Persian princess who died giving birth to their 14th child.

The family started their trip in New Delhi, which is 140 miles from the Taj Mahal.

On Sunday, Catherine posted a dreamy snap of herself walking in a large hall with tiled floor and walls, captioned: 'New Delhi, India, today. When you dream of visiting a country all your life, and it lives up to everything you hoped it would be.'

The arrival comes 16 months after Cameron was released from prison after serving seven years for drug possession.

He received a five-year sentence for possession of heroin and selling methamphetamine which was extended when he admitted to smuggling drugs into prison.

The star - who appeared in 2003's It Runs In The Family with his dad Michael as well as grandfather Kirk Douglas, 101 - has been sober ever since.
