Carla Connor is back! ITV's new trailer for Coronation Street's festive special teases the legend's return as she's seen spending time with her family at the pub

Carla is first seen spending time with her family at the pub, as she says: 'Cheer up, it's Christmas!'

Despite her cheery demeanor, though, there seems to be more to her return, and now that's she's back it's clear that she's going to be in a pretty vulnerable position.

Her half-brother Aidan, played by Shayne Ward, 33, also looks less than pleased by the prospect of spending time with her in the trailer.

Carla was last seen on the show in 2016, but after causing two huge car crashes she decided it was time to leave and move to Devon after being on the Street for almost a decade.

Time for revenge: It's not all about the festive cheer as the epic Christmas trailer also teased a huge conflict between Peter Barlow and Billy Mayhew.

But it's not all about reunions and the festive cheer as the epic Christmas trailer also teased a huge conflict between Peter Barlow and Billy Mayhew.

Now aware of the vicar's role in the death of his twin sister, Susan, in 2001, Billy is determined to take his revenge on the man.

One scene sees him menacingly turn to Billy in a church, and say: 'Why hurt myself, when I can hurt you?'

Billy is then seen tied up in the boot of a car, desperately pleading for help once he comes to.

Coronation Street's festive special airs on ITV on Christmas Day at 8pm.

In a preview of scenes that will air next year, Coronation Street's Pat Phelan stalks Faye Windass to her flat and barges his way in - after she discovered the shocking truth about his murdering ways.

The killer, played by Connor McIntyre, wears a look of thunderous anger as he jams his boot in the doorway and confronts the terrified teen.

The soap villain's reign of terror has resulted in the deaths of Michael Rodwell, Andy Carver and Vinny Ashford so far, and the newest photos of filming hint that Faye might be his next victim.

Looking furious, the builder jams his foot in the doorway and sends Faye into an uncontrollable panic.

As Corrie stars films scenes up to six weeks before they are aired, viewers can expect to see the explosive showdown in 2018.

Actor Connor recently addressed Phelan's murderous behaviour, saying he was sure the builder would be brought to justice.

'I haven't seen much further up the road for Phelan but I imagine it will get darker,' he said on ITV's This Morning.

'Let's put it this way - I think my long-term future on the show is in serious doubt.'

Discussing his character's twisted actions, he added: 'I find myself asking what happens to a person once they realise a problem can be solved his way - does that then become a default position?'

Meanwhile Gary Windass, who was thought to be killed in an explosion in the Ukraine, was back from the dead as he prepared to shoot scenes as in Manchester on Friday.

Mikey North, who plays the character, was joined by Connor McIntyre while taking a break between scenes on the long-running ITV soap.

The location, close to the same spot where Andy and Vinny were brutally killed at the hands of Phelan, suggests a gruesome discovery awaits Gary, whose departure from the show was confirmed in November.

Gary has been a character on the cobbles since 2008, but news of his death first emerged in October, weeks before news of his apparent demise in the Ukraine while working for the chief executive of an oil company reached Weatherfield.

However, it was claimed earlier this week that the character actually fakes his own death in a 'huge twist', and will return to the beloved soap during the Christmas special.
